Use Telewest Wall Box/Outlet for a Satellite feed

    Hi there,

i have got a cable going from the omnibox to the master bedroom upstairs which hasn't been in use for over 5 years, but now i wish to install a freesat box in the room, can i get a satellite feed and join it the existing coax (cable feed) and use the freesat box with no problems.

how ever with some research i have found out that there is a filter inside the wall box, i was told that i need to remove that in order the box to receive any signal. the wall box has a system zero tamper proof screws so i cant remove it, any force removal of the box can result in virgin media filing a criminal damage.

i have tried in connecting a satellite feed to the cable, i used an old sky pace box and i wasn't receiving any signal. ive noticed that inside the omnibox the cable was just hanging and not connected to anything, and what appears as rust in the f connector.

    so the question:

can i get a satellite feed and join it the existing coax (cable feed) and use the freesat box with no problems.

you can use the cable with no problems, BUT you need to removed the isolater inside the white box as this will block the sat signal

and as a ex installed off telewest for 5 years, just get a torx screwdriver to undo, as at the end of the day its in your house, you could be removing to paint walls

            right sit rep,

i have yanked the wall box off, removed the insulator, joined another coax inside to the box, and sky pace box doesnt seem to pick any signal, tried "new installation" at the installers menue and no luck.

coax cable from the bedroom to the lnb looks good. i have also cut a bit off the end where the old f connector had a bit of rust and put a new connector on.

the dish is aligned correctly as sky+ hd downstairs works perfectly,

i have 3 feeds from the lnb, 2 to the sky plus and 1 going upstairs connected to the old coax cable.

            any suggestions?

If it's been out of use for as long as you say, are you sure it's digital coax, i.e when you cut the old f connector off did it have foil separating the inner and outer cores.

if its the proper coax cable then it should work fine as I have used 2 redundant vermin feeds for boxes in bedrooms upstairs. try the sly box upstairs on your problem feed. what have you used to couple up the 2 different cables and how have you done it?

you cant use a spliter to join ur two ends it wont work, just use a barral jointer that works fine..chris.

Sorry for late reply been away,

Anyway the coax from the lnb has a braided coil with the plastic, the old vermin coax also has braided cool with the plastic core. Both are joined using a barrel connector, and still no signal on the sky box?

I'll confirm this later about the types of coax,

They all have braided coil around the plastic but digital has foil between the braided stuff and the plastic bit containing the inner core.

                        Satalite Feed

You can but you may experience some signal loss. I think you can get a booster.

Ok here are the cable types used,

From the lnb it's a foil and copper braid and foam

The vermin has foil and copper braid with plastic.

Those 2 you refer to are the dielectric insulators foam is better than plastic but if your joining it wont really matter.
