    Newbie Satellite advice

    hey guys,

I have been a loyal starview user but now decided to go satellite and currently trying to educate myself on this.

My plan is to get a local fitter to install a satellite for me but I have a few queries.

    1. What size and type of dish (static/motorised) is recommended to pick up all the 3pm kickoffs etc.

    2. what receiver is widely regarded as the best and is hd? I have looked at dreambox and blademedia? any others recommended?

    3. Estimated cost of getting started?

    4. Any recommended cline (pm me)

    Thanks a lot guys

1m or more and motorised set up.

Dreambox 800 se or if you are not worried about the cost VU dou or solo.

    3. Estimated cost of getting started?
Hmmmm Fleebay has some deals on there for motorised sat setup but you will need to get a sat box.

    4. Any recommended cline (pm me)
This is a grey area due to we are not permitted to discuss Clines here, but search the internet and i am sure you will find some, but as in most things test before you buy.

ITgate TGM220 (swapable tuner), Dreambox 800 pro, Dreambox 500c x 2, DBox, Popbox media player.

the answers are on the forum already, but there are recommended boxes and motors, not "the best" as "the best" varies according to what you want from it and the knowledge you use to put into it. the chances are that if you were told what "the best" was you would baulk at the cost and go for "good quality" and "reasonable budget" instead

      1) I would recommend a darkmotor superior or supreme mounted on a scaffold pole on T-K brackets, and you need to be able to "see" from 42 east to 30 west passing through due south, so a south facing wall

and get something like a triax or gilbertini dish of between 80cm and 110cm, typically 88cm although the bigger the better, and use an inverto ultrablack lnb on that dish

mine uses the above with a triax TD110 110cm dish, superior motor and ultrablack lnb using a spiderbox 9000

      2) dreambox , vu , blade bm7000s , tm5402 and spiderbox 9000 are good boxes to look at, but decide if you want single tuner or twin tuner, and linux or non-linux too

      3) a good question, but I would estimate between ?250 and ?400 not including fitting and not including number 4 either

      4) banned subject on here

Thanks guys, I have been looking around but sometimes there are contradictions etc and it gets a little confusing.

I just want a good satellite and box which is easy to use really. No point in getting an all singing all dancing box if i cant do anything with it due to lack of knowledge.

also no point in doing it if you havent got a good line of sight from a south facing wall either, as without it it makes no difference what you buy

put your postcode into dishpointer, find your house on the map, and set the dish on your walls until you find a suitable mounting point with no obstructions like trees or buildings, then check the satellites from 42 east to 30 west including 28e , 19e , 13e , 0.8w and ensure yoiur proposed location can do the job. if you havent got a suitable mounting point you cannot use a motorised dish

a blade bm7000s is a good starter box and you wont be disappointed with it, easy to setup and use, as is a spiderbox 7000 or 9000

dreambox , vu and similar boxes are linux and require more brain power, but are a better option in the long run

Just checked and my location doesn't have any problems seeing those satellites.

do you have any recommended supplier websites bud?

Regarding "all" 3pm's. This looks 99% unlikely this season on the popular reachable sats.

You will probably get a few but not all 3pm's due to the Premier League stopping providers having access to all the games.

Late last season each provider normally had a pick of 1 game on satellite (normally the most popular game) and the rest were available on their own on-demand players which are viewed over the internet via set top box or on cable tv.

Just had the satellite guys come and for them to supply and fit a motorised dish was ?350 plus vat

They couldn't give me a quote just to install but to install a static dish was ?85 plus vat.

This seems pretty steep to me....what do you guys think?

Well your looking at 100-150quid for a motor and dish, so 200quid to fit it is pretty steep if you ask me. The problem is that if there is no one else in your area you might be stuck.

What area are you in? Might be someone on the site who is willing to do it for you for a lot less!

I know someone in the Birmingham area that will fit a static dish with a quad LNB and run a twin cables, all for ?50.

what about the other things that are needed as its not just a motor and dish, like pole and brackets, cable and connectors mounting screw.bolts, cable ties/cable clips, everything mounts up in the end,and i dont think it will take an hour, longer setting up times.

google multytenne 4 sats on 1 dish.
interesting as it removes the dearer setup.

Why dont you have a go at setting everything up yourself as you have nothing to lose (but your sanity).I bought dm800,motor dish plus all other bits needed, started from scratch as everthing you need to know is on DK.Much cheaper than paying sat.man.Be warned as much reading and research required but well worth the satisfaction on completion!
