    Which Receiver should I get? I would like the following features;

    Hello all, wanting some advice please.

    I'm after buying a Receiver but need help in choosing one that has good support and not likely to let me down.
    My brother has a DM800, which has treated him well for a long time and rarely hits a snag.

    I know some people prefer "Open Source" firmware receivers, but lets be honest most don't require that, as-long as you get patches every now and then, fantastic!.

    I would like the receiver to have at-least the option of:
    * HD 1080p/i
    * EPG Guide
    * Youtube access (not too bothered really, but handy to have).
    * Stream links? (Not a biggie)
    * Network sharing to stream Media via Windows Shares.
    * USB Media Playback.
    * Network PVR Recording aswell as-well as USB Recording obviously.
    * Optical output (Dolby Digital 5.1)

    Around ?100 or so i will happily pay.

    I live in a area where i get 100% signal simply by just having my small Sky Digi dish at about 6 foot in the air . Although iv'e got it bolted in at about 12 foot on the brickwork.

    Once I get a dreambox and it's working all hunky dory I will go out and purchase a motorized dish, the same or similar to what my brother uses.

    So please, if you have any good advice on which are good receivers that are worth purchasing, then let me know.
    Please don't just come out with "I herd this Cryptobox is good" etc... thanx!

          given your requirements and very limited budget I cant see any boxes fitting your posts

          mgcamd is generally a linux (open source) emu

          epg is always a contentious issue and generally down to using plugins with linux based boxes (with a few exceptions like icecrypt, blade bm7000s and tm5402)

          streaming from a satellite box to other media or a nas over lan is generally restricted to linux boxes

          so I would say you want what your bro has, or a vu , but getting them within your budget wont be easy

          bespoke boxes like an openbox or eagle just wont manage it

            Ahhwell in that case what is a decent enough receiver that sports the following:
            Support newcmd/mgcamd
            HD 1080p/i
            EPG Guide
            Optical output (Dolby Digital 5.1)
            USB Media Playback.

            A Skybox F3?

                save up to buy a vu as prices are coming down with the launch of the second series,and preferably an original and not a clone.

                  afaik bespoke boxes like a skybox f3 or openbox have no epg capability apart from now and next which all sat boxes have, and dont have mgcamd capability either (just cccam and newcamd I think). you cannot install mgcamd on non-linux boxes

                  also a lot of these with usb media playback have limited capabilities when it comes to divx or mkv playback due to the sheer number of variations in encoding being used in those containers

                  I agree with cacti that a VU would be best but a dm800 is also a contender (and preferably not a clone either)

                    There over ?200 aint they?

                    Perhaps for my first receiver i will try my look with a EagleBox HD800. Then later in the year get a better receiver if need be.

                      no epg except now and next on one of those, and no mgcamd either

                      however, they have good picture quality and work ok with cccam and newcamd, and good usb playback compatibility too

                          So the vu+ duo doesn't have any epg support?

                            Ohhwel that's not a problem, you never really look though the guides anyway, plus i'm only wanting the receiver for football. Yeah I read they have decent picture quality and good USB Media playback. But with it not supporting mgcamd, will that be a issue? is mgcamd more reliable to newcamd etc?

                            In your opinion from testing, which do you find most reliable? what do you use? where you from? questions! .

                            I guess I will get either a Eaglebox HD800 or Skybox F3, which do any of you suggest out of the 2 as my first receiver?

                              my answer highlighted the name eaglebox 800HD and was in response to that box and not the vu boxes

                              obviously a vu box has epg support by installing epg addons same as on any linux based box

                              as for mgcamd, I have no idea if that will be an issue for the OP

                              as for me , I am uk based and have or have had several boxes to play with but that is my business only

                              everybody will have their own likes and dislikes on any item, satellite box or car or house or whatever, just because I may prefer one box doesnt mean the OP or anyone else will

                              at the end of the day you buy what suits you, not what suits other people
