certain people groups disabled , elderly etc ..can get help through the govermant scheme..which is good. im sure all friend down south would of seen this as yous have switched over already

    anyway

installation ..apparently should be done by ..

    qualifed installers ..ie rdi ..

    (cai plus( laughable)

    anyway ..

i am rdi qualifed. have pl insurance am crb checked as well.heights trained use up to date test meters tv explorer.

but find it unbleviale to see a sub contrator avc sky subbies basicly doing this work.

they aint qualifed making a terrible job of it ,,( basicly drilling

wall brackets on houses to low. when nice chimnley up a height

using no meters its a disgrace ,

this goverment is a ****in joke .

the gov funded scheme was great here, the mrs sister had it, she got new box which they set up and would have got new ariel if she had needed it, you have to be on certain benefits to qualify for it, not sure which they are tho, although her sister is on high rate care and mobility dla. great scheme cant fault it.

like are they crb checked they could of hired any ****er ..abit like action aerials who are just a joke.

splatering there vans with pink and black stuff trying to look like a digital uk van ..

            @Leez

I subbied for AVC for a few years and before that it was First Line Digital, FLD where not great but AVC are well i cannot put into words on here.

The reason for the shoddy work is the employed AVC personnel are only on 6 month contracts and are registered with the RDI as an Associate member which allows them to work on the scheme and yes they have to be CRB checked the Enhanced one as they changed from Basic to weed out the true scally's.

So as you can probably imagine they get to go out withan Engineer LOL for a couple of weeks and then thrown on the job on there lonesome, and that probably explains why you hardly see Aerials on chimneys and on side walls instead and cable runs like spaghetti junction all down to lack of training and no after support.

AVC's staff turnover is horrendous most never see out the six months and those who do more than likely end up on the Sky contract so that AVC dont have to pay out for the rest of the RDI training as you know it takes time with 3-5 on job visits from RDI trainers to assess your work and knowledge, Luckily i blagged them to pay for mine while still a subby.

Not too sure i agree with your statement about installers who are not RDI and are not competent some of these guys have been in the trade for 20-30 years and find its an extra expense they dont need, as for the CAI they too now expect you to have a similar qualification to the RDI with health & safety and the City & Guilds for electronics servicing and signal pathways.

And finally the workload as i say i sbbied for them and have worked most of the country down south and in the Scottish highlands LOL loved it up there, and to make it pay for someone self employed like me i had to complete at least 6-8 full aerial installs a day 6 days a week or it just was not worth it for the contract rates, The employed guys where on even less and i mean a lot less and that explains most of the shoddy work your seeing.

            Regards

eye , agree with alot with what your saying .

theres alot of brillant engineers out there without being having a rdi badge.
way better than me no doubt .

all i was getting at was i had to take time out open learning to a collage miles away etc

whilst i was working full time aswell .

and im still spending .subs pl insurance .etc.

and for avc to just pick up all the work .just dosent seem fair m8 .

when i do a postcode check i dont see any of these people as rdi s and they just live about 2 miles away ,

so as you can understand why im puzzled .

as for avc dont much about them, can remember cobra as p partner for sky when sky pushed us subbies out for them.
              many years ago .
and i had to go and work in ireland for abit .

fitting sky .just seems these jump in and **** everyone else .

the switch over scheme was great for me when i subbed off FLD
but when they switched to AVC everything went down hill,
FLD supplied all aerial equipment free and paid you a day rate of 150 a day and a extra 20 quid if you were working out of area,
when AVC took over subbys had to buy there own stock and were paid a measley amount per job wich made a lot of subbys buying cheaper materials this is when i left, what a joke AVC are,
they are making millions out of this contract for supplying a sub standard service to the disabled and eldery.
i feel sorry for lads that work for them they are treated like shite
and get a real poor salary, companies like this should be stopped these companies are responsible for shoddy work and also a lot of accidents are down to overloading their workers with impossible amounts of work.
                I HATE AVC.

AVC wont be robbing anyone else on the sheme its finished for the UK and over half of the 630 million that was supplied from the licence fund has been returned, The last i heard a mate of mine asked if i wanted to do NI switchover a few months ago as this is being dealt with by another company, When i saw the rates i gave it a very wide berth paying peanuts comes to mind
