Read on up a DM800.... They are safe, easy to use. Not really plug and play but you can do a lot with it, with some reading and some plugins that you can download.

Alternatively as suggested - same principle, but VU Solo, ET 6000.

mate not a gamble in the slightest, cant go wrong at that price.
x3 are fantastic boxes for novices who just want simple satellite tv.

Would go for openbox over eagle for the cs capabilities.

                          I've got both...

DM 800 HD and VU+ Uno HD

Because the VU+ box is faster, it's actually a better box... Also the box its self it better, taking a bigger hard drive and cools down quicker.

I expect the VU+ box to last longer then my DM, which is still a really good box and picture.

?47 is peanuts in todays money, so the ?47 x3 is not a gamble at such a low price, if it does the basic HD fta channels like bbc1HD and itv1HD then its a bargain considering the prices we used to pay several years ago for SD only boxes. and a krypt is 3 times the price although you get the "free gift" included in the price

the same applies to the eagle, its basic but functional and not a lot of money for what it is or can do

I woiuld buy a better box, but as a starter box they are good vfm and should be considered as second boxes in the future, perhaps relegated to a bedroom, because once the bug bites you will want something better with more features, and that costs more money

makes me laugh when you see people complaining about poor epg etc from a cheap as chips box

wtf do they expect for approx ?50 ?

if you buy a fiat 500 you cannot expect to get a rolls royce or a bmw m3 with all the toys but to go to asda and shop they all do the same job, but at different prices and different running costs. so very few people learn to drive in a rolls royce or a bmw m3, probably a corsa or fiesta or a ka, but as they become proficient drivers they want something bigger or better or with more toys. I think clarkson learned in a viva or a sunny or something similar but you dont see him driving them now(although his young daughter bought one for ?50 to run around his farm), but costs wise he pays more money for his mercs and ferraris etc

I would totally ignore the 3D aspect, over rated and over hyped, and very, VERY few 3d channels anyway, absolute rubbish in my opinion and always has been. comes around once every 20 to 30 years and then disappears again

most definitely buy a HD box though, more channels and more choice, and a better picture too
