Have you installed the dish yourself, dont worry about the BER reading '0' is good and what you want it to read, AGC is fine just mainly concentrate on the SNR which is the most important.
Without doing a scan have you tried importing a pre-made channel list for Astra2 which is i assume you want as Sgtflipflop and various other's do a fixed dish list which would be ideal

My friend you need to do some serious reading on Linux and Enigma2 recievers before you ask anymore questions all of which can be found on this forum, your first port of call is to set the dish up with a meter if you have one even a ?5 cheap job would do next you need to read up on how to use Dreamboxedit, Vucc, DCC, Telnet, SSH etc...

Would this be a cheap meter or a half decent semi pro one with at least AGC SNR BER MER readings on there and maybe even satellite lock identification, As the cheap ones rely on you having at least an idea of which way to point the dish and also know the elevation.

you do realise using a compass only gives you magnetic north (and south) and the satellites are arranged from true south, meaning you have to accept there is a difference in actually pointing the dish ? (they are several degrees apart)
you should take the advice to learn to use the tools and install a channel list before atrempting this, so check the dreambox and vu forums here for tools, lists and tips and hints tooComment

you can also use your box to check you are getting a strong signal,i don't have a solo so don't know how to access the sat positioner ,am sure some kind sole will tell you where it isLast edited by blueflash234; 13 September, 2012, 18:06.Comment

Great first post, but no he doesnt.
Also, a cheap 5quid meter will be fine just to pick up 28.2
Go to dishpointer.com enter your postcode on there and you should get a rough idea as to where youre supposed to be pointing. Try also having a look at a neighbours dish and go from there.
Finally, are you using the meter correctly, ie moving the dish till the beep, then turning it down, and adjusting again till you hear the beep, continuing with this a good few times to hit the sat perfectly.Comment

Have you tried the app from dishpointer or similar, they usually let you point your phone at the sky to locate the general direction you need to be pointing your dish at.
just make sure you arent too near to any metal.
also if you can try getting a screen and the box pluged in whilst you are making adjustments.
i used a meter and it would bleep like crazy, but when i plugged the dish in, there would be no picture, obviously the bleeping wont tell you which satellite you have locked to. therefore its sometoimes easier to use the box's signal meter.Comment
