Satlite Setup Help!!!

Im a newbie. Have a current s*y subscription. Wondering If a bought a free to air satalite reciever colud I run the Box from my current S*y dish? If yes what channels could I recieve?
If a motorised satilite was bought do they automatically scan for channels?

yes you could hook up a different receiver to your sky dish, but youd only receive fta sky channels.
maybe a few others from i think its thor sat. but certainly no sky paid for channels if thats what you're thinking

The FTA receiver would run off your current sky dish, you'd simply need to get a dual or quad lnb for multiple connections. You would only get FTA channels unless the box has a card slot and it can read your sky card. But you'd need to have the sky card in the box to get what you pay for.

If you went down the motorized route, you would still need a sky card in whatever receiver you buy.

sorry not thor, its hotbird sat you could pick up if you swivel dish to 13 e
channels you can pick up are here. not sure which are fta tho.

Thanks for great help. I basically want to set up a satalite where I can view all Live Football matches . How would you suggest I done this?

im sure some can be viewed with softcams etc.
you can watch all sky uk channels if you get a receiver thats capable of cardsharing.
although, card sharing talk isnt allowed on here, there are other places on the web that may get you started or somebody may pm you on here

you need a motorised dish or a dish pointing at thor1w and a receiver like a technomate 5400 that can be patched to open the digi-tv channels there are about 12 sports chns from this provider and english football is shown on nova sports, if you also get a diablo cam you will get even more chns open plus more chns that show english football,

If a box was to be patched would mean that it didnt need a smartcard?

cheers. Obiously would your satalite need to be in the correct position to receive all of the available channels? It seems card sharing can be quite exspensive

yes, it really is best if you're going to get into sat viewing to do as benny/9 says and get a dish with a motor

a motorised system when set up will go to all the
satellites that are set in the receiver menu that your
dish size can receive good quality signals from.and you
move the dish with the remote to any of the satellites
plus this type of system will give more to choice of channels
a patch does allow you to open the channels without you
paying a subscription or the need to use a card or cam to open
the channels, a diablo cam is a module that can be programmed and
put in the cam slot in the front of the receiver that opens
even more channels free of charge that the patch does'nt open
and with a technomate 5400 once set up it will only need updating
when new patches come out and you wont have any extra cost
the same is also for the diablo cam and programmer is paid for you
will find all the files and patches on the forum for you to use.
that is why i said buy a receiver with cam and card slots then in future
if you choose to you can use these items, at first just try the patched
receiver and get use to that first
