    Which Sat box?

I have been running a DM500 for the past 2 years and its been great for the price. But im now looking to upgrade and have been doing some research.

I have got a budget of ?150 and my main requirements are HD, atleast a single PVR and a really good EPG system. These features are lacking on my DM500.

With my budget, it is clones that i will be looking at. My DM500 is a clone and i have never had a problem.

The two I have seen are the DM800 HD and Vu+ Duo. The VU+ is winning for me as its a twin tuner and seems to get good reviews.

Any views or anything i should look out for?

Look out for the Clone of Clones on the Vu Duo and if your happy with your Clone DM500 and wish to stick with a single tuner then for ?150 a DM800SE is within price range or even a VU solo ?40 cheaper

    Regards

Nextbay seem to be a good choice for the Clone Vu Duo

dont buy a duo clone as they are rubbish,do plenty of reading first if you do want it.

Thanks. I'm actually edging towards a vu solo actually.

The solo is quite a bit cheaper than the DM800hd but is it better?

Its probably on a par speedwise, you just lose the front panel display with the solo, I have one and so far not had any problems running blackhole 1.7.2 and its faultless.

That sounds good to me. A few questions for you if you dont mind:

                • How good is the EPG? Is it an automatic updating or do you have to manually retrieve data like i do on my DM500s?
                • Can i use my current DM500s bouquet on the vu+? Ideally i want to keep my same channel numbers like they are at the moment.

The EPG is similar as the 500 is enigma1 and the solo enigma2, so you use crossepg and store it to either a USB flash drive or an external hard drive which can be set to download the EPG for any satellite you want at any time of day.

The Channel list's can be downloaded from the Blackhole servers or you can FTP over your own.

Thanks again. Still debating between a DM800HD and the VU+ solo, hmmm.

The reason is that i currently have a DM500s so ideally would like to stick with a dreambox. Just trying to work out if the dm is worth ?50 more.

Do you have any experiance with the DM800HD?

why would you want to buy a dm and start having to use patched firmware

when you can buy a solo and use the same firmware as the genuine box and as you say the solo is alot cheaper

i have had a lot of clone solo's and not a problem from one there is also no fan to annoy you unlike the dm clones which is either noisy or stops working

What are the general opinions of the Vu+ duo?

Ive seen a few threads regarding a few reliability issues but im guessing there are many owners out there whose have been working fine?
