Just getting back into the multi-satelite viewing game after several years watching just freesat channels - got fed-up with re-programming via cards several times a day. I'm now looking to buy a receiver that will do the business with as little manual intervention from me as possible (eg auto-update via IP). I'm technically minded, so initial set-up shouldn't be a problem. Someone recommended the Protek 9760 HD IP, but I hear that it's a "gift style box" and not quite sure what that means. I don't want anything that is going to time expire unless I pay to extend the 'gift'. Should I be considering the Protek 9760 or are there other boxes I should be considering? I'm not hung-up on any particular manufacturer as long as they are not one-minute wonders.
Protek 9760 HD IP or not ?

cant speak for other boxes but if you want virtually plug and play, after initial 3rd party firmware loading for "gift" the 9760HD IP is a hassel free box.
"gift" covers a lot and does not expire(but as with all these type of boxes there are no guarantees it wont go belly up one day) but the proteks have been around for a while now and quite reliable.
I use one everynight to catch a film,"The Girl with the Dragon tattoo" last night.
