Spiderbox 7000HD recovery tool with windows 7 professional

    Hi,
Can anyone assist with my issue?
I am trying to reflash my SPIDERBOX 7000 HD STB with the recovery software tool and Bin file via RS232 null modem cable as per the insturctions. I have unpacked the RS232 Bin file (which when extracted shows as a VLC media Bin file and DOWNLOAD.exe)
I am using windows 7 professional on my PC tower but there is no progress with the reflash% after 30 mins...is this normal with 0% after this time running at 128000Bps?
Should the Bin file when extracted be a different media, not VLC?
Are there any special settings in windows to make due to running windows 7??
If someone could furnish me, or point me in the direction of these answers, I would be much appreciative.
My old patch dated 10/10/11 is long due an upgrade but will not allow me to open the secret menu if I use any of the latest patches from that date.

are you 100% sure you have a null modem cable and not a serial cable as both look identical, have you used that cable before.

ideally use a pc tower or desktop running xp that had an inbuilt com port, no usb adapters

and make sure your lead is a null modem lead as mentioned above

the files used are bin files, nothing to do with vlc

you have vlc installed and have attributed bin files to it, but you could have easily had a different tool installed with bin files attributed to it too

so the fact that vlc is attributed to this bin file is completely irrelevant

I would not even attempt this with win7 pro and usb adapters, so just get an old pc and use that instead

as for patches, if you install the last patch from mar 2012 you can access the hidden menu, just check the spiderbox mandatory patches thread on here

        cable

I have just checked the cable box i bought and realised it says RS232 serial..NOT NULL MODEM!...I specifically asked for a null modem in Maplins and they have given me this...thanks for the reminder, I'm glad you made me check again now...off to Maplins I go ....AGAIN! Thanks guys!"!
        Will see what happens after.
Can I just clarify with you fella's,
        1. Roughly how long does it take to start the progress % bar moving when all is initiiated?
        2. Should I change the COM port transfer rate up to max or leave at 9600Bps..
        3. I only have access to windows 7 pro at the moment...does it need to be XP, or will Win7pro do it fine?

        Thankyou

          1) a few seconds only

          2) use 115200

          3) I have never heard of anyone managing it in windows 7, tried myself and failed, even in ultimate. microsoft removed all kinds of stuff in win7 so dont be surprised if it fails

the tools are designed for xp, and a pc having a standard FIFO com port built in, with dos embedded into the os, is always considered the correct tool for the job

when planning a job, having the correct tools is always a good idea

            Got it going

            Hi guys,
Many thanks for your inputs so far.

            Heres my update,

Got a new null modem cable fitted and working fine in a PC tower running Windows 7 Professional!
All plugged in and switched on from the back of the STB after readying the Bin file...within 5 secs progress % bar moving...15 mins later BIN file loaded and software loaded!! Newly Patched 29/3/12 after...all good so far...went to open secret 1111 menu...nothing!!! Would not open still after all this?????
I have now had to reload the original patch (dated 10/10/11)which has been working working great and unhindered for the best part of 11 months from new. I'm concerned that my box is not running up to date patches....my STB will allow me to load them but the secret menu will not if i use any other patch than 10/10/11...any thoughts guys?
I'm totally bewildered by this now!!

                  no m8 , thats correct

                  http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...44/index2.html post 23

I have tested and used the march 2012 7000 patch and the 9000 patch several times and they definitely work fine

just be sure to factory reset before installing from a usb stick (after saving your channel list to usb stick), and factory reset after installing too

make sure you use a usb stick formatted to fat32 (check in windows explorer - properties)

then HIGHLIGHT the network option in orange (but do not press ok on it), in the Accessory menu , where it says USB at the top and NETWORK at the bottom , then press 1111 , and to prove it works you will suddenly see KEYEDIT appear above network showing the patch is switched on and working

Just downloaded the patch again from there...tried opening it with Winzip and comes up with the message that this file is not a valid archive???
I also just read the post underneath (No:24) and you commented to this guy that this patch may not work due to dates or something...??

my point was that anything can be out of date as soon as its been posted, or can be superceded, and he was referring to the softcam, not the patch

but that file is the last 7000 file, its valid and working on my 7000, and I have just downloaded it and unpacked it with no problems using winzip pro 11 (7313)

                      try using 7zip instead
