Setting up satellite with existing sly box

I used to have a sly package last year which is now cancelled, the dish and cables are still in place.

Does anybody know if the old sly box can be used and what would be the easiest way to get the sat back up and running?

    Thanks!

ok do you mean you want the premium channels back?
the easiest way will be to ring up sky and either ask them to turn your card back on, or, if you no longer have the card, ask them to send a new one.

Alternatively, you can buy a sat box that is cs capable such as,
openbox, skybox, dreambox, vu duo, vu solo, redline, ferguson ariva, amiko alien, icecrypt, eaglebox, etc etc etc.

Sorry made a mistake with the title of the thread. I want to use the existing dish, i don't have the old sly box.

With the box's above can they be used with the old sly dish in its current position?

I've got a cable box (kryptview) set up which works well. Do the sat systems work on a similar basis?

Right done a bit of research and i think i'll go for either the skybox f3 or the openbox x3. The one thing that is a bit different from the cable set up is that some of the box's i've looked at that are for sale come with a 12 month viewing card. So will i need to purchase a new 12 month viewing card every year?

I do not believe any of them come with a viewing card

they come with a "sea lion" that is "supposed" to last for 12 months, but rarely does

assuming it lasted the 12 months , yes its an "iffy" paygo system (like the sv was)

in my opinion its best to get your box google for some cs forums and have some tests to find something semi decent
as above poster mentioned you will be lucky to get 12months and you are stuck with a server that is more than likely overloaded with reshares offering cheap subs that giving poor quality viewing .
you could be paying ?150 for a ?50 box and a ?30 sub
my advice find a good one and go for no ore than 3 months a time and never pay more than you could afford to loose if the plug gets pulled by the server or cards can not get read by the newer updates that the bigboys come up with to stop it as a few european have lost hd channels recently and who knows whats in store for us
