Guide to help me get set up

Im new to this forum and come across it talking to someone about not affording sky.....

Two years ago i was diagnosed with necrotising faccitis & still recovering and going through surgery to reform all 10lbs of tissue and muscle removed from my abdominal ara. Im 25 years of age & nearly having a breakdown with my life at the moment, gone from a guy who worked, loved going out and about to stuck in the house back forth in hospital doing F all.....enough of sob story tho.

Im up all hours through the night in pain watching crap on tv, watched everything on Netflix, read every book. Have always wanted sky but I cant afford with sick im on & would like to set up to keep me sane.

I do not have a clue about anything and all this terminology used but just want to be guided in right direction. Ive heard to buy a Sky F3 box and etc. But after searching this forum ive learnt that there are many boxes avail. Which is best for me? I have a budget of ?60-?120. I also dont have a sky dish, what would need to be done about that.

If i have said something i shouldnt have or not welcome here, then i apologise but desperate times call for desperate measures

if you read through my answers and click on the link I gave in this thread

you will find most of your questions answered

as for skyboxes , they are openboxes so check the openbox section here on dk

its also a basic requirement of satellite that you need a dish, so clearly you need a dish pointed at 28.2e where sky and freesat channels are located, but for greater choice you need a motorised dish

you will struggle to sort this out with your limited budget

its also worth pointing out that its illegal to watch pay tv channels without a valid subscription, so if you obtain a method of doing so its illegal and could easily "go off" 5 minutes after you have paid for it, with no comebacks as its not a legal "service". obviously this adds to your costs

many people think satellite has the "holy grail" and is cheap, it isnt, it wasnt and it never has been either

there are many repeats on satellite too, so dont think its the answer to your prayers as it wont be

its a hobby, its fun, it is great for people with a hobby like watching football, but as mentioned in the link I made in the other thread , its not cheap and there is a lot to learn

I am not sure that it is for you, but would say it DEFINITELY is not for you on your limited resources

not a good idea to use your real name either, if it is your real name, not when dealing with illegal activities anyway

    good luck with your illness

ps:- a kindle and using our ebook section may help you, as I do not believe you have read "every book" , not given the vast amount of ebooks I have on my N.A.S. (it would take more then 25 years to read them all)

Thank you for reply. How do i change my name?

You have just educated me that an easy job has become an impossible one for me. So i will pass. Will be having a word with my dad who owns few properties & has a guy to do all the satellite & aerial work to see if i can have sky put in.

But if that doesnt get me anywhere something else has caught my eye on the first link, it was actually apple tv that got me into this convo with my friend. I was going to get one for that xmbc and everything like watching movies etc. Because there is a guy who is selling AppleTv Gen 3 for ?65 that has only been used twice. Was looking into it and seen that i can only do that on Gen 2. But someone else told me to wait & i can break it soon. And then someone else told me about sky & led me to here. So may just go with the Apple Tv Gen 3 and wait. Unless you want to put me off that, whats your opinion if you dont mind?

I have no opinion on apple tv or any other streaming or iptv system

suggest you put up a post in the correct forum as this is a satellite section, not streaming section

ask an admin to change your username

if you have a broadband router at your gaff then get yourself a cheap motorised dish pack 80/90cm for about ?110 and fit it yourself and i will give you a maxx1000 box that opens channels on the european satellites through the broadband connection if you pay the postage. it wont get you HD or the s*y channels but it will give you a good selection of sports and movies along with the fta stuff, regards mdt
