Could this be the future? There are already ports of XMBC for android? If the device is hackable and they could get sat + cams working with xbmc this could be the ultimate box.

Golden Media are bringing out an Enigma 2 receiver with Android 2.3 .
It looks really good hardware wise but I'm not sure it it will catch on due to limited support.

but surely a sealion app running in the background then run sat app would make it doable......

Just someone with mega brains to write something, could be something exciting for the future android based systems could be worth keeping an eye on (yes I like android got tabs and phones running on it)

Just like any box what these boxes will ultimately need is support to make them viable. Without a community behind them, pretty much dead duck, but with proper community, skys the limits.

Indeed, which begs the question as to why manufacturers would use it.

Android is effectively a 'jailed' verion of linux where all applications are run in a semi-virtual environment where, the theory is, they can do no harm to the underlying operating system or other running apps

The downside to Android is that its seriously cpu intensive in comparison to a standard linux variant. Generally you would need a cpu with 2-3 times the processing power to accomplish the same workload.

The upside, of course, is that its (arguably) a safer environment to run apps that come from untrusted sources.
