    VU+Duo Twin Tuner V Amiko Alien 2 - Triple Tuner - Spark & Enigma 2 OS

Hello everyone and I hope you can help me out here. I am going to buy either the VU+ Twin Tuner or the Amiko AIlen - Triple Tuner. But I can not decide on which one to buy. I live in Ireland and it will be connected to my *** dish. It will only be receiving channels from Astra 2a. It is not a motorized dish. I have read a lot of good stuff about the VU+ twin tuner until I came across the Amiko AILen. Plz Help
Thanks to everyone and anyone who reads or helps me out here. This is my first post and my first box that I am going to buy.

I'd hold off buying a VU+DUO. The VU+ Solo2 will be out coming in about a month will blow it out of the water for not too much more money.

On paper the Amiko is a good box for the money but lack of support is the main thing going against. It uses a non standard tuner which means e2 images need to be recompiled and modified from sources. From what I've read they tend to have a lot of bugs, but then again a lot are getting fixed now so your mileage may vary.

GO for the Duo there have been so many sold and so many teams providing images for this box support isn't dying off anytime soon. I've had an Alien it's chalk and cheese in a v's contest the Duo wins by knockout in the 1st round.

Do Not buy a Vu Duo now if you can hold out about 3 weeks you can get the Solo2 for an extra ?20 which will blow the Duo out of the water Specification wise.

Release date for the Solo2 should be around the 20th December

I have both a vu duo and the Amiko alien triple tuner and the vu duo now resides in a bedroom, Now the E2 side of the Amiko Alien box is Beta and can be very buggy so I only use the Amiko on the Spark side of things and I have to say it is fantastic, the only fault with this box is lack of EPG on Spark, the dvb-t tuner picks up Saorview perfect also and for half the price of the vu duo it is amazing value and support for this box is in it's early stages but it is improving almost on a daily basis.

So if all you want to do is watch tv and record the odd program then the Alien is fine, just remember to get a Kingston usb flash drive for using with it.

what will be the the difference between the new solo2 and the duo, il live in ireland and having being doing a bit of research the new solo2 is due in england around the 15th december, and then its only limited stock, so it could be a while before it hits irish shelves

faster processor ( the same one the gigablue quad is using ) more ram and flash storage, better tuners. basically consider it like a pc you bought 4 years ago and one thats on the shelves now. every thing is newer and faster.

now you really have put the cat among the pigeons with the gigablue quad:
Gigablue HD 800 QUAD HDTV PVR Linux Receiver, HD Satshop Cologne

                            it has some specifications

I was making the same choice, wait for solo2, buy GB quad or buy Alien2. I bought the Alien2, I'm running Enigma2 side and finding it stable on latest firmware, as mentioned above it has a different chipset to other boxes so not all plugins have been recompiled yet, its coming one in leaps though, and for the price a great piece of kit. I expect the Enigma2 side to be refined in the next month or two and also there is the Spark side, which will beat Enigma2 (for me) if a few obvious mods are made (7 day EPG and more timers).

If you have the money to spare then I'd echo to wait for the Solo2. For me, having a DVB-T unit as my main family PVR, I'm happy I saved the cash and went for the Alien2.
