Linux vs non linux + open source vs closed source?

    Linux vs non linux + open source vs closed source?

    Can someeone explains in laymans terms the differences.Got a general idea of these from google and forums but not as a direct question.Looking to get a new box heart set on blade which i know is non linux etc.Epg is important can be got for 7 days on blade but goes after power off.How come linux boxes have better and stable epgs.thanks.

    The epg on the Blade is backed up to your attached USB storage when you power off.

    I know a lot of people have problems but I've found the epg on the Blade completely fine. You just need to find out the right way to use it.

      Wading in (& way out of my depth):
      Closed source can only be used as receivers (not 100% true but need an expert to get more out of them so basically this is the case).

      Open source have a better facility to share from.

        Been using Blade now for a few months after using tm500, dm500 and dm800.
        I spent a lot of time programming these units until I got the blade so easy to use comes on in less than 10 seconds screen layout and easy of use is second to none. as for streaming from my pc to blade dead easy
        PS EPG works great as does the recording SD and HD channels.
        Also Blade have left me upload my channel list to their site 28.2 UK&IRELAND
        Great support from them
