    Newbie help - Satellite BG

    Hi all,

I've just taken on a pub and I've been looking into foreign satellite football as you all probably know sky charge an extortionate amount for their commercial sports package. I'm aware of the legal issues surrounding the rights to the premier league logo and sounds etc....

I've looked into having satellite BG and a few others installed by a few companies. The cheapest, no minimum term being ?700 installation and ?189 a month subscription to satellite BG (plus VAT).

I was just wondering if anybody could provide a bit of knowledge to how I could go about cutting out the middle man here. I know I can get a 12 month prepaid card for around ?350 (if this is legal for commercial premises I'm not quite sure?). I'm also not sure as to what kind of satellite receiver or dish I may need for this? I was also wondering what would be the best way if I wanted to broadcast two different channels from this?

I'm new to all of this, so please forgive my benightedness.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

There is no legal difference by getting yourself a card for ?350 or getting a rip off company in supplying the same card for appx ?2500 over 12 months. By paying a company doesn't give you any protection, it just lines their pockets.

I would go for the ?350 card myself & just get a 1 M dish installed.
Maybe get a motor on it & also get yourself a JSC card for other football.

    JSC card appx ?100
    1M dish & motor appx ?100
    SAT BG card appx ?300
    STB (TM5402 eg) appx ?130

    Eqpt costs about ?630
    Intall...appx ?120 maybe

So possibly you could get all this for ?750 with many more games than just SAT BG, with JSC you'd get Champions league, International, Europa league ,Spanish league, FA Cup, League Cup, & so on.
So get both & you get most football.

Got to be cheaper than minimum ?2500 a year for much less channels.

Just make sure you get a HD receiver as sat.bg requires this.
The TM5402 as mentioned above will do.
It is easy to use, good hd pic.

Just the advice I was looking for, thanks guys. On the legal issue surrounding the Premier League rights... I've heard that there is a box that you can also buy that blurs out the premier league logo and sounds? Not sure if I would bother with that to be honest though.

Also, does anybody know if all of the commentary on these channels is in English? If not, how would I go about linking in a DAB radio for commentary and are there any specific radios you would recommend?

I'm paying ?84 per month for Racing UK at the minute aswell. Any good, legal racing cards?

        Thanks again for the help

        Nick

Oh and would I be able to broadcast two channels at once? Say racing to one TV and football to another? Would that need two boxes and two cards?

I would say you are better off setting up a new cheap media PC for about ?250, then get a subscription to ADMC for another ?90. That will get you every premier league match with no satellite dish...

Agreed, but every pub showing live 3pm footy in the UK is also breaking the law, unless they block out the Premier League Logo and also stop the theme tune by Kasabian, and how many actually bother to do that ?? I know of dozens of boozers who show footy, and they are either using ADMC online, or using C/S. Publicans do not care as long as punters are buying their beer.

To me ADMC is the best way to get all 380 live matches.

Most publicans I talk to are not aware that its illegal, I suppose that's something they turn off their ears to when told.... I was in a local boozer a few weeks ago, he has Dreamboxes clearly on show to the customers and the picture was freezing ! I saw no card in either of the DM800's, so I guess he was using a pay####er. They don't care or don't know enough.

Lol .. its ok mate, I am not in need of saving ... I am not a publican. Its true what you say, but I am looking at it with hands on experience. I also think that if publicans did actually care about breaking the law, then maybe Viasat would still be showing EPL. Lets face it, the EPL only imposed laws and restrictions because boozers were illegally using viewing cards designated for the home market on their big screens. If this did never happen we would all still be getting matches at home....
