Canal Digitaal to phase out Irdeto

Dutch DTH platform Canal Digitaal Satelliet is set to gradually phase out the Irdeto CA system. In June, the operator will offer subscribers to extended tiers special incentives to change to MediaGuard.
According to local news reports, Canal Digitaal plans to switch off Irdeto encryption for extended tier channels. The platform still has an unknown number of viewers still using an Irdeto smart card, a legacy from MultiChoice days. Most of these viewers have basic tiers.
At the moment, Canal Digitaal simulcastas a number of channels. The platform is now also in the process of switching to MediaGuard 3 for its other subscribers.
