New to this... few basic questions

I've been looking at getting a box to view sky sports and if possible some 3pm kick offs in the EPL. I have a sky minidish and a virgin media cable at present.

From what I've seen my options are the Kryptview for cable tv, although I can't find the HD version for sale anywhere, and I assume I'd only get english sky channels on that. How reliable are those boxes?
My other option being to connect to the sky minidish, but will that be just english sky channels the same as Kryptview, less interference?

1: you want 3pm kick offs, youre not getting them with any uk tv provider, which means european sats, which in turn means bigger dish, either motorised or multi lnb.
2: KV boxes are reliable.. its the server that isnt. just look around the web, you'll find that many are saying its been ok for a while or its ok atm.. and it may be, but those comments indicate that it has had problems in the past, and no doubt will again.
3: Satboxes are also reliable, but again rely on server quality if youre looking to c/s (which we cant talk about on DK)

the above isnt exactly true, but is a good explanation

setanta on 28 east show some 3pm kickoffs from your existing dish, although the matches shown may not be the actual ones you want to see

setanta are a european broadcaster geared for eire but uk is also in the footprint

apart from that your setup is geared to sky and espn matches only, much less choice than a motorised sat system

So my best option at the minute would be to buy a receiver to match my sky minidish? Would I need a new LNB or just connect to existing one.

If I was to go down the road of fitting a motorised dish, does anybody have a website they prefer for the best prices on dishes etc.

any modern digital sat receiver made in the last few years, with ethernet port, will probably do the task, although some are better than others but it depends what you require and your pc skills or general skills in this field too

your current sly lnb is fine, although if its a single output you may wish to swap it for a sly quad lnb as they are cheap to buy, and then run more cables as required

e bay is probably the best site to check dish prices, then google the make and model when you know what you want to see if you get a better deal

Stand corrected. Totally forgot about setanta.

Sent from my Motorola Colorado using magic.

Ive had a look outside and noticed a dish quite a lot bigger than the sky dish on my chimney, I will use that one, thanks for your help so far.

I know you cant talk about cardsharing on here but all I want to know is the basics, not where to find one. When I buy a box (reccomendations for a HD box?) will I need a card to pick up the foreign channels or just subscription sky channels?

see previous reply for a few HD box recommendations

you can certainly use a subscription card inside some boxes with suitable firmwares installed, the rest we cannot talk about but is different to what I just explained

you need to start your own thread instead of hijacking somebody elses thread, (a bit of respect to other members is required)

Ive been looking at boxes and have seen the Skybox F3 and the Eaglebox HD 800 - both very good prices, or theres the Cryptobox 500HD which I can't find much info about. Can someone help me choose the best box or another box in the ?70-?100 range?

Ok thanks for the advice, I went for the Skybox F3 as I couldnt find any info about the Cryptobox so I guess it would be difficult to get help with that.

Thanks for the help everyone, Ill no doubt be back with more questions when the box arrives!
