    Which Receiver?

    Hey,

I was wondering, is there a receiver out there that would allow me to use my current sky HD subscription card, in addition to picking up other satellites?

I want to get into receiving other channels from other satellites (Thor, Hotbird etc)

Im aware that i will need a larger motorised dish. I currently live in Hertfordshire, what would be a recomended dish size?

    Thanks in advance.

    Will

Well if you want to use your hd sub then you will need a hd receiver. The best receivers out there at the moment is dreambox...thing is hd dreamboxes start at 420pound..you could buy a Technomate6900super which is also hd and can cardshare too via lan

      Hey Mate,
      Thanks for that..

So is the Dreambox the best there is? i have been looking at the Cube Revo, how does this compare to the Dreambox, and Technomate receivers?

And as i said, will these receviers allow me to put my existing Sky card in the cam slot, and it work without any hassle?

And in addition, the ability configure/use cardsharing services.

      Thanks again!

Yes go for the dreambox if you can afford it. You can use your sky card and cardshare to get more stuff plus more HD stuff than just skys choice. You just need to use cccam and possible newcs to read your sky card. But these emus can be downloaded via your remote direct to your box.

If getting a dreambox you have got to be prepaired to spend a bit of time with it to play around but the 800 and 8000 are the best boxes on the market but they do everything.

Also correct me if im wrong but you cant cardshare on a tm6900. Yes it does have LAN but you cant cardshare because its not linux

          Hey thanks for that,

Ok, so the Dreambox 800 only has one tuner doesnt it? so i guess that means i need to get the 8000 with the dual tuners. Will the 8000 work like Sky+ ? (Pause/Rewind/Fast Forward, PVR, record one program while watching another)

Yeah if its got 2 tuners you can use it like sky plus. Im sure the 800 has 2 tuners in. if not im sure you can add another one.

You can have upto 4 tuners in the 8000 so you could have 2 for sat and 2 for cable and use it for both. You can also put a dvd drive in the 8000 and you can put a hdd in both of them.

The 8000 is top of the league but has a stupid rrp of aprox ?900

Hmm the Technical Spec of the DM800 reads,

              - Tuner: DVB-S, optional: DVB-C, DVB-T
              - Tuner Module, Plug&Play

Does that mean it has a in built DVB-S, and an aditional plug and play module to put a 2nd tuner into?

Yeah but you should be able to get an extra sat tuner in rather than a cable or terestial

Ryan mate, your wrong... Its possible to share via lan on 6000super..linux has got nothing to do with it.. Its even possible to share with a tm1000 via sssp...
                  Linux is only operating software..

Cheers sadiq I ruled the 6900 out caus thought cardsharing wasn't possible on it. Sounds like not abad little hd box if you can cs on it.

Can you run cccam on it then?

Nah just normal patches but the patches are always being improved..the last major addition was the ability to read nds cards!
