For a proper "starter box" you wan't a dm500 clone. The openboxes/skyboxes are closed software and you can't do much with them. The DM500 can all sorts. That's if you don't mind loosing HD.

I've had a couple of these... Spot on! They also have component out.

The one you dont want is the openbox x5. This one is completely different to all the other openboxes and skyboxes. Meaning has least support

If all you want to do is watch tv then get a skybox f3, (skybox/openbox m3, s11, s12) all basically the same and will cost you 50quid and is decent. HD and has loads of support, very popular.

If you want to tinker a little more then look at a linux based box ie. dreambox clone or VU+
But these will cost you more.

Basically what you pay is what you get.

i agree if you can live without hd then a dm500/518/528 is a cracking box for the price but if you want hd for a [email protected] then a slybox f3 but if you are motorised then look at a vu+solo clone or a dm800hd for about ?95,regards mdt

Excuse my ignorance, but what are the implications.

Does this mean that the SkyBox F3/F5 does not run enigma 2?

Can you not install plug-ins such as 1channel, youtube etc etc?

you cant install apps on the skyboxs/openbox they cant run any image apart from the firmware upgrades that the makers themselves provide.
They are a more basic closed source box great if you just want to watch tv anything more get another box.

in this day and age not having hd channels would drive me mad and if you like looking at movies or sports on the big screen,on another matter some people have sound systems and want to hook up but cannot due to box not having a spdif or digital out for 5-1,full epg for 7 days.

                    Is the skybox f3/f5 HD?

Can it do PVR with a HDD?

Can it drive a motorized dish / does it only do 28.2e or can it do any satellite it is pointed at?
