    Caravan - DM500s set up

was wondering if anyone could help, have read threads around this but mostly outdated ones. Im putting my caravan on a seasonal pitch up by the lakes, i need help with my set up. At home i have a dm800hdse all set up no problemo, my idea is firstly to purchase a sky dish and sat receiver (dm500s - as it seems cheapest/most reliable). So i cant get help but think how will the box connect to the internet or what would be the cheapest or best option. I have a HTC desire HD phone which have heard could be utilised, but then am reading mobile 3g could be risksy re: mbps and pings etc.

So if i go ahead and buy the dish and receiver - set it all up down there, what is the best solution for me at this moment in time to connect my box to the internet.

Ive read that a 3g router could be thwe way forward if so which one do you rekon, also once the routers set up theres the problem of which sim to buy re: data

if any one has any suggestions as to the best set up let me know

    thanks

    Andy

    Hi Mate

I set up a very similar system a year ago at my caravan. I used TM600 and a TP-Link MR3220 3g router (i think off the top of my head). I used an Orange 3g dongle which only had 500mb/month limit. The limit was never reached. This worked quite well with the odd glitch here and there. The signal made a huge difference as I tried a 3 sim first and the signal was not good enough so encountered a lot of freezing. It may be best to try and find what mobile signal is the best in the area and get an unlocked dongle. This was easy to set up and the TM600 or in your case DM will connect straight to the router with no problems. Hope this helps

yeah thanks Reg appreciate your quick response, im currently looking at 3g router to unlocked dongle best fit - if ya kno what i mean. Its gonna cost me a few kid to get it all set up, dish & clamps/pole, sat receiver, router/dongle etc. just hope by the time i set it all up i at least get a few months of telly before it all goes off if you know what i mean? I suppose im just weighing up whether it would be waste a money - then again if it all went off i suppose i have a guranteed FTA Signal along with a steady Internet connection

      whats your thoughts?

Go for it mate. I personally don't think it will be going off anytime soon and when/if it does you have the fta stuff. If you have a recent phone that can be a wifi hotspot just buy a wifi bridge (tenda make them) and use it that way. No need for seperate dongle and mobile broadband

Purchase a openbox x3 i find it better for wifi than the f3 both ?50 or thereabouts then create a wifi hotspot on your phone and connect using your phones data allowance. You need to buy a skybox wifi antena/dongle ?5 it plugs into the USB port on the front. Hope this helps

You could also pick up a folding camping dish and tripod from maplins for around ?40.00. I have the folding one but took it to nz and have had it set up for over 3 months now and not had to adjust in at all. Although dish and t & k brackets wont cost much any way.
