    Recorded Sly Programs

    Hello All,

I currently have a Sky 1tb box which is all good and well.

I am interested in purchasing a Dual tuner Linux box (Thinking an original Vu+ duo or Uno).

What I want to know is, is it possible to copy over the recorded programs on my skybox on to the linux box and view them after inputting my valid sky subscription card.

BTW, I already have a DM800HD which I could use to test whether this works.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

no, the only way to do this is connect the sly box to a dvd recorder by scart and press play on the sly box and record on the dvd recorder

Thanks for the prompt reply, rather disappointing as I have loads of stuff on there. Recording to DVD doesn't seem like a very efficient/easy solution.

its not, as its done in real time, even if your dvd recorder has an internal hdd like mine has, its still done in real time in rgb SD format and so takes as long as the real thing, and would take many dvd disks to achieve as well, and never in HD either. the programs need a valid card to decode them or play them on the plus box and the only output method is by scart or possibly by phono with a suitable adapter, so always in real time and always in SD

You would then have to find a way to transport them onto the linux hdd or a nas by re-encoding them, which can be done but again in real time

is it worth the effort ? - I think not unless there was a really good reason to do so and then only cherry pick what you cannot download by other means instead

so for films etc, you can already download them in media streamer plugins like icefilms or similar, or as mkv or avi or mp4 files so pointless transferring to dvd over scart. same applies to many tv shows, easier to download them from various sites like putlocker etc

You can use Copy+ to take recordings of the drive but this is only used to transfer to another drive, And as ramjet clearly stated any recordings from pay channels are encrypted so are non-accessible.

If the HD is a standard in the sky box, and you can remove it; you can then obtain attachment and transfer them to a computer by USB, and then transfer to new HD.
Doing it this way may require a lot of storage. DVD recorder will not record AC3
