    Dreambox 600 or eagle linux

I currently have a technomate 5400ci usb receiver with a diablo cam, but as we are now losing most of the decent packages on diablo i am looking at getting a linux receiver.

What would people recommend out of a dreambox or and eagle?

Is there much difference and any benefits of one over the other?

The Eagle linux is just another clone no better no worse than any of the clones from China. I have an original Dm600 and a clone dm600 and I would difinetly prefer a dm600 clone or otherwise rather than an eagle box. The dm600 can take an internal ide hard disk drive but the eagle which is clone dm500 cannot take an internal hard disk drive and the tuners on the dm600 are much more powerful compared to the dm500.

Decide first if you are going to buy a clone or an original dreambox. If you want an original dreambox than try satstore.co.uk if you want a clone than take your pick from all the suppliers mentioned in the various threads. I brought my orignal dreambox dm600 from satstore and my clone dreambox from satsun.biz but someone was complaining yesterday they were still waiting six weeks after paying from the latter.

Might sound lie a stupid wuestion but what are the differences between a clone and original? is it just the quality of the boxes or is there an issue with some software not working on a clone.

Totally new to this side european sat systems as i usually just programme a diablo cam and patch my receiver

Not a stupid question really, basically you get what you pay for when it comes to dreambox. The clone dreambox will not work with certain Gemini images and as you go toward the higher end dreambox the s/w has problems with new images. I have an original dm600 from satstore and it has worked perfectly since the day I brought the box. I have a clone dm600 and this has worked perfectly for the last six months and as far as I am concerned no difference to my original dm600 but almost half the price of my original dm600.

ok thanks a lot for your help. i think i'll just get a clone for now to get me started to see what i can do with it, is it easy enough to put the images and software on the box?

Lots of reading of the RED stickies in the cable section to get your head round the basics of the box than you should be fine.

The main diference is the dm600 has better tuner and you can install an internal ide hard disk so that you can use it as a PVR. It also costs a little more than a dm500.
