Many similar plugins for sure, some maybe only available on one or the other, all depends on specific plugins and what you want/need it to do but many popular plugins are available on there and a good choice of third party firmware. We find it runs extremely well once setup correctly of course which can be where some of those that say otherwise comes from, but yes runs very well in our opinion and does what it should do and of course like any E2 receiver is still in constant development when it comes to third party firmware and images so tends to only get better, the Spark side as well is also a very nice interface and perhaps often over looked a bit to much but well worth a try out if you have the opportunity.

So in respect of these things, is there much support for the Alien 2? Sure is, it'll do more than the DM800SE will.
I think you and I know he means support on setting it up and help on the forum when things go wrong. Don't get me wrong I have a Golden Media box which is very similar to the Amiko and I cant fault the spark side it is excellent (need to go back and mess with the E2 side again) but support on this site is virtually non existent so had to join another site. These boxes are not mainstream and probably never will be, but I admire you trying to push them to the front all the time (for obvious reasons I know). If I ever need an Amiko your site will be first port of call as you seem extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

I'm not quite sure what you'd need to have to consider a receiver main stream or not, I would probably say a Dreambox receiver by it's nature is less main stream than most any we see around but guess that depends on how you define what makes something mainstream. Not sure it really makes any difference either but I can assure you the help, support, backup and hardware support is there and available for all and as offered many a time for anyone that doesn't think or is curious to see Enigma2 running on these receivers you're more than welcome to come and see them in action, see them along side the likes of various Broadcom receivers, it's not a problem - if you're not convinced then that's fair enough, but please feel free to take up the offer any time and see for yourself, more than happy to do a demo on both Spark and Enigma2, whatever suits.

Mainstream - as units sold in the uk as I think they are popular in Europe and especially North America. Not rubbishing them in any way but not as popular on this forum as other boxes.

I see where your coming from and have to agree that probably for the E2 side of things Clone 800 & 800se's as well as the Vu range have pretty much got that side of the market sewn up especially in the UK, i have had and seen E2 receivers come and go in the last few years even the likes of the CT/Xtrend range which seemed to be at the forefront of the Broadcom based receivers but where are they now i dont see many UK suppliers with this brand available same as what happened with the Qbox mini touted as another great what happened it got dropped.

I cant speak for the Amiko/GM range as nothing tempts me towards a purchase not even to have a play with, Not saying they are bad or anything but the main selling point is its a cheap twin/triple tuner if Vu dropped the Uno with twin tuner and the Solo2 to under ?180 i doubt this brand would get a look in.

At least i know that with a Broadcom based E2 machine i know that virtually 99% of available plugins will work not a maybe or try it and see but they do work and thats probably why the Clone DM's and Vu's and now even technomate have jumped onto the Broadcom wagon are the best selling.

As i say thats just my opinion

Yep guys I do agree with the points being made above. We were the first to bring VU+ Duos into the UK many years ago now, we still sell their range, fantastic receivers. The whole Xtrend/Clarke-Tech thing, great receivers and still going, you see the latest form of this as the Mara M9, nice receiver and works well, good support but the whole things with naming rights and marketing is where they've failed, it's not the hardware or the support, the QBox HD Mini, great receiver, we especially loved them, afraid Duolabs themselves had other issues though so that's where that all ended, a shame in my eyes I still love them but if they are no more then so be it....

We've tried to not compare the Amiko Alien 2 to other brands as such but rather say look this is it, this is what it does and the backup is there to, I'd have to be personally happy that was the case or we'd not be jumping on board with them, I am 100% convinced front start to finish on product, hardware, backup support and continued support, the Amiko brand is new to the UK, it's really not new though as a brand and has years of previous products and continued support to back it up. At the end of the day though it's all personal tastes and choices, I hate getting involved in comparing brands to one another to be honest, it doesn't do anything for me, I'd much rather say this receiver does what we say it does and if that suits your needs then great, if for any reason it doesn't do what we say then please let us know because it needs to be addressed! Hundreds of receivers to choose from these days as we all know though but as mentioned a few times if you want to come and see any of the receivers we have setup and working you're more than welcome which is probably where it's best left.

                  Any update, mate?

I'm considering 'upgrading' from my s10 to a dual tuner. I am on a budget so I am considering the Amiko Alien 2, or, possible, the Golden Media Spark.
Just wondering what to expect from either. Main questions:
Is PVR functionality good? (It's effectively non-existent on the s10)
                  What's the EPG like?
How user-friendly/how 'easy' to set up?

I really am a basic user. The box will be used simply to watch and/or record TV shows. I don't know what is meant by 'plugins' and 'bouquets' etc! Lol
                  Many thanks!
