Having spent a whole evening looking into various boxes I have decided that I would be ok in the near future with a closed source box as if I upgrade at a later date I can use this box in our caravan, we currenty have a comag. Of the closed source boxes which is the better with least issues and reasonable remote?, most boxes get mixed reviews, the ones I have shortlisted skybox f3, eagle 800, openbox s10/11, although the s10 many say the channel names are cut short.

    Thanks in advance

I would spend a bit extra on the spiderbox 6000 HD myself

eaglebox 800 hasnt had any support for more than a year

the skyboxes are always changing so you need to correct software for each model

Your basically on a budget and looking at 28.2? east by the looks of it, well if you can only afford ?50, And in the not too distant future when it goes Belly Up and are happy to use it as a FTA box then out of those 3 mentionedThe F3 would be my choice.

Although as Ramjet stated for an extra ?40 you can get a 6000HD with 'Gift' that will open various packages on different sats and will not cost you anymore.

Personally i would go the Extra and get either the TM5402 or Blade 7000 pretty much Solid in everyway and have been tried and tested, even if you only use it on a fixed dish at first either of these will work just as well on a Motorised system and have a massive following with firmware and channel lists not only for fixed but motorised as well and they both give you 7 Day EPG on 28.2? east something you cant say about the first 3 you mentioned

Budgets are a bit tight atm. Yes I could go for a 6000hd which is just within my budget and yes I could go more still and get a tm5402 but you have to stop somewhere. Is there anywhere someone could recommed to get a 6000 via pm? or is fleabay ok?. What's happening with 28e?. I only get fta at the moment.

Th Spiderbox 6000HD can be had from either a major online like Amazon to local smaller outlets like Lee @ Goldwafers or Ian over at Red Apple digital both are around the same price, its the firmware patch afterwards that counts.

Oh sorry forgot to ask. A friend has a new ross dish 60/65cm I think. Would it be any good replacing my sly dish with it, just to experiment with a couple of lnb's. Apart from 28.2e what is a good satellite to point the second one at if the dish is big enough?

There are quite a few you can use 39?,28.2?,23.5?,19.2?,16?,13?,10?,9?,7?,4.8? East & 0.8?,5?,8?,12.5?,15?,22?,24.5?,27.5?,30? West Before you ask you will only get certain beams of these satellite's ie: European and not every channel on some you may only get a few others a few hundred.

First thing to do is lose the Ross Crap LNB that comes with the Dish its as much use as a chocolate fireguard and repalce with something else and by that i mean a standard LNB and not something meant for a UK $ly dish

Monoblock lnb? What angle of separation? Assuming 1 is on 28.2. Which other would be best?. Sorry for asking so much.

the standard separation is 6 degrees on an 80cm dish, although there are some others with 3 degrees separation, so not much use if 28e is one of your objectives. so 28e + 19e + 13e are the main 3 from an lnb rack

one problem with asking all the questions is that sometimes it means members havent read all the other threads on the forum so are missing some useful info

                    like here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...set-up-334542/

                    and here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-setup-301108/

thats just 2 examples of threads containing a wealth of useful info by various members

there is also a massive thread by digicon that has been added to over the last 6 months called the end is nigh, that should inform you of 28e developments

try goldwafers for the spiderbox or any other box that they sell for that matter

Hi all, Just a quick update, rather than spend a lot on my first Linux box I have bought off a friend a DM500S, which he is bringing over tonight. I am not sure if it is a clone, but I suspect it is. He has been running with Gemini 4.4.0. I see a lot of talk of timebombs, it this something I should be concerned with?

                      Thanks in advance

yes, only use clone images if its a clone, which it probably is

I was looking at either Commando or OpenPli. Do these have transponder list for 28.2E built in or will I need to download them?. Also EPG, the only one I can find is a 3 day one, is a 7 day available?

if you intend on using the box on a fixed dish at astra2/[email protected]/5east then the latest commando image is by far the best available for the dm500s,regards mdt

Yes I plan to use it fixed atm while I sort out the brackets etc to motorise it. Is there a better image for motorised dishes

Commando can be used on either fixed or motorised, if going motorised there are plenty of E1 channel lists available for the 500s
