Getting broadband in a remote location

I have a touring caravan in a very remote location on the LLyne Penisular in Wales. It is about five miles from Abadaron on the west coast side. The nearest pub is five miles away and the nearest very small shop three miles. I can't get a signal for my mobile or a digital TV signal. Does anybody know if I can get any form of internet service from a satellite dish? I have clear sky to the South so getting a signal from satellites isn't a problem. If you can help I am not an expert in systems but quite handy with tools. I don't know if there are any wi fi hotspots around so if you know how I could find any that are that would also be a great help.Thanks. Chessman

Hi Chessman. I have a similar issue which I have resolved. The French Telecom Companies service is appalling si I bit the bullet and went to Satellite. Not the higher ones like Astra, but the new low level service on Tooway. The service is brilliant, but it is not cheap. Google Bentley-Walker with Tooway.

This service has never let me down.

I know you say you are in a remote location but have you tried any other mobile providers other than the one your are on? Have you seen anyone around using mobiles? I have just done a check using the place you say your are at and 3 and ee show signals in your area. Check out this. Ofcom | Ask us - Telephone - How do I check mobile phone coverage in my area?
For the cost of the chips these days I would be buying a chip for each provider and shoving them in my phone and checking the signal levels for each provider.

Dear Johnain. I would, but I only go about once a month for a few days so don't want a contract and since most of the stuff I want to access is on Cloud I would soon run out of download on a pay as you go system. Thanks anyway. Chessman

Looks like satellite broadband is the way to go then, but it's not cheap.
I use 3 mobile broadband for transcoding from my solo2 to my tablet and works out ok.
About ?11 for 3 gb data sim valid for 90 days.

Dear Kegnkiwi. Thanks, but even the local farm house has to have a direct BT line. I can get a weak signal from Ireland on Virgin but would have to have a contract to get all you can eat data. I would also need to get a new phone that allowed me to use it as a modem. I only go about once a month for a few days so a contract isn't an option, and pay as you go would be too costly. I'm on cable at home so can't use sky. Seems I will just have to do without the internet for a few days a month. I would think the area in general would have a signal but I am in a bit of a dip so can't get a digital TV signal from Anglesey or Ireland. My view to the South East is obscured by a large hill with two masts on. The only clear sky is more or less directly South. This suits me as I go to look at the stars and having a dark sky is great. The area in general is just half a mile inland from Whistling Sands beach. Regards. Chessman.

Dear septicsmurf. That I don't mind paying if I could use my Nexus 7. I use XMBC to get TV when away from home so could I use 3 mobile on that. XMBC is streaming video so I'm not certain if that is downloading or not. If it was then 3GB wouldn't last very long so wouldn't be and option. I'm new to this so 'transcoding from my solo2' is like double Dutch to me any chance explaining what that means to someone like myself? Regards. Chessman

Vu+ solo2 is a satellite receiver which has on the fly transcoding. Basically means it transcodes the stream to a lower bitrate allowing you to watch and control your tv on your mobile or tablet from anywhere with a 3g connection.
But the solo2 is ?300 and you'd need a good 3g connection as well. Quality is ok on a phone and just about watchable on a tablet, but wouldn't be great on anything bigger.
