    Motorised or Multi LNB

    Hi,

In the next few weeks I am planning on setting up another satellite dish. Initially I was going to fit a motorised setup, but now I'm considering a multi LNB setup with 13e, 19e and 23e and use a spare connection on my current dish for 28.2e.

To set up the multi LNB dish would be easy as my side wall is suitable and it has a clear view for all of the three satellites. To setup a motorised is more difficult, it would involve a scaffold as there is not enough room to get the height on the ladder as the dish would need to be above roof height.

I am only really interested in channels with English as a selectable audio and I'm thinking of maybe getting a subscription for al jazera for the football. I will mainly be using the dish for sports.

Are there any good English audio sport channels that I will miss out on by having a multi LNB instead of a motorised?

If I go for the multi LNB which satellite should the dish be aimed at and what size dish will I need in South Yorkshire?

    Thanks Mick.

I"m just over the Humber from Hull and I had a multi lnb setup for 13E,16E,19.2E and 23.5E on an 85cm dish and it worked spot on.
I used 16E as prime but I"d use 19.2E for yourself spacing between 19.2E and 23.5E will be tight so you may need to use bullet nosed lnbs.dont know about the footy never watch it.

If its for the Footie then a Motorised is a must a fixed Multi LNB setup is great for fast channel change but i can guarantee at some point you will wnat to watch the match and it wont be on one of the satellites your fixed dish is pointing at, I have a Fixed Multi for 13?,19.2?,23.5?,28.2? east but this is used for standard viewing only the Motorised is used for Most football

I'm in the East mids and have triax td88 sort of pointing at 16 with good signal across the board on 9, 13, 19.2 and 23.5 on triax multi bracket using standard inverto black ultra. I have 28.2 also connected to diseqc switch coming from my existing sly dish. I have sorted out all the english audio channels that are not in the sly italia or germany package, I haven't included sports or adult either as it doesn't really matter what is being said for those two. For the standard four sats without 9e there are 221 channels in the english audio bouquet and obviously you will know the majority of sly italia and germany movie and entertainment channels broadcast with english audio

Thanks, that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for! I think I will go for that setup. Was it easy to setup the 4 LNB's?

          Thanks, Mick.

Yes it is easy but that doesn't mean it's not time consuming, fiddly and frustrating but worth every minute once all set up. It's part of the fun. If you could just gaffa tape the dish to the wall and lob on the lnb everybody would be doing it and there would be no sense of achievement. The problem you will come across is that on a single lnb setup you are going by a defined sat position and elevation and want to peak the signal at it's highest point. Although that is sort of true with multi lnb what you inevitably want to end up with is a good strong signal across the range of lnb's which is why i said my dish is sort of pointing at 16?e. I get between 70/90 snr across the board on most tp's. Obviously there are a few tp's that are weaker then 70 but still around 60 and a lot that are well above 90. For 13, 19.2 23.5 and 28.2 you will get around 4500 services. One tip is to load an upto date working channel list and use that to tune in each sat. When setting up only tune in one sat at a time then setup diseqc switch afterwards cause if you try to do both at the same time you will have an absolute nightmare.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll leave myself a full weekend to get everything setup. If the weather is nice ill get the receiver and portable tv in the garden to make it easier!

              Thanks, Mick.

Assuming your box is connected to your home network and you can get a wifi signal whet you want to install the dish. There is an app for android phones and maybe iphone called dm satfinder. I used the Android version to control my box and show the signal strength so I wasn't up and down ladders 300 times. It makes life much easier. You do need to have a channel list installed for this to work. All weekend is a good plan you don't have to try and rush things that way
