    Good deal?..

Ok just a quick question, I've been offered a full new package and as a beginner I don't want to just jump In head first and regret it later on.
Anyway I've have been offered a brand new VU Duo reciver, with 120gb hdd For ?230
For an extra ?60 I can have 12 month gift on it too,
Basically plug and play replacement for my sly box,

    Any opinions and/or advice welcome.

At that price it's a clone. Original duo's are around the 250 mark without hdd. Don't believe what you have been told about a duo being plug and play. Yes it may be set up and yes it will work out the box if it is set up but when it all goes wrong (it almost certainly will at some point) you will have no idea what to do with it. You need to read lots and tbh I doubt if your "gift" will last 12 months with the current situation. Oh and by the way a duo is nothing like a replacement for a sky box. It is so much more than a just a Sat receiver.

Not a bad price if its off someone you know, its a decent price, A few questions to ask yourself though ? how old is the box, why is he selling it, Is the gift stable and will it last.

Would you not preffer to put a few more quid in and buy a brand new Vuo+ Solo2.

I tend to stay away from second hand electrics, but if its of a mate or someone you know, its a good buy.

        Thanks for response guys,
sorry I should of made myself a little clearer, it is a brand new box just opened up to install hdd and gift,
pie don't personally know the chap selling it but he has been recomended from a friend,
i know the duo box is a lot more than just a satalite reciver, and was hoping to get into the extra features once I have the box up and running

Don't forget the important bit. This will be a clone not a genuine box. This is a fairly important factor with the Duo, not just because you will need a patched image if you want to run oe2 or late oe1.6 but because they do have a tendency to run hot which can destroy the board. These are generally not an issue when addressed but you do need to be aware of them

I wouldn't touch it personally. You could buy a genuine duo for around ?240-?250 if you buy from germany, get a hard drive for ?20 off flea bay and have a genuine model for only slightly more.
Or spend the little extra and get the solo2, which is a beast of a machine.
As for the gift. Can't really talk about it but these guys selling 12 month gifts, tend to disappear overnight with your cash.

I agree with septic about the gift issue and if you can't stretch to a solo 2 consider the gigablue quad, this is also an original box which comes in at around 270 and runs practically the same chipset as the solo 2 but gives you the plug and play option of adding two more tuners making it a quad. It comes with 2 hd tuners as standard and has decent support for images. It is not compatible with Blackhole which is a pity but is compatible with vix amongst others so you are pretty sorted

Thankyou both very much, I will take your advice and look into the solo 2, I'm not going to rush into anything and then not be happy with it a few months down the line
