    First Setup - Advice/Opinions/Recommendations Appreciated

Hi all, I have been looking at getting a satellite system for a while now and have been reading up a lot recently on all the options.
Basically I have decided on a motorised setup so I can pick up all satellites 6 minutes left and right of due south.
The equipment that I had in mind for my setup is the following:-

    80cm Triax dish
    T+K bracket
    Inverto black lnb
    Dark Motor
    Vu+ Solo2 with 500gb 5400rpm HDD

Couple of questions about the above equipment:-
    1) I am in Cambridgeshire and was wondering if the 80cm dish would be up to the job. I didnt want to go too big but I guess I might have to.
    What do you think?

    2) As the Vu+ Solo2 is twin tuner do I only need a dual lnb? If I bought a quad would 2 ports be redundant anyway?
Or could I use them for something else in the future?

Any advice/recommendations etc... would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks!

thinking maybe dish maybe a little small when using motorized and some distant sat, others that hit those sats should be able to say.
you could get a quad or octo if thinking ahead and adding more stuff in the future, for now a quad is the norm.
a good starting box going for the best and not a cheap chines clone.

If you're looking to get the weaker sats like 26e and 7 w, then yes, you'd need to go bigger.
I presume you're talking of a td 88 which is actually a bit bigger than 80 cm I think.
Will still get you a good range of sats, I only have an 80cm dish and it meets my needs.
As for the solo2, great choice. I have one and it is a great stb.
Get a quad lnb, just in case. It's not much more than a twin. Unless you want to get the duo2 and set up 4 tuners, but that is around ?500.

Thanks guys. Would a 90cm dish be enough to pick up those weaker sats (26e & 7w like you mention)?

I think you might need a bit bigger, especially for 7 w. But I'm no expert. Maybe digicon can guide you further with dish sizes.

Without knowing your exact Location its a little hard to give you a dish size for your needs but general rule of thumb would state a 1m at least

Thanks for the info. Hmmm 1m dish, not sure the Mrs & neighbours will be pleased with that.
Looking at your dish size guide it looks like its 1m minimum to get 7w & 26e though, right?

You can get both of these on a TD88 Dish again though depends on location LNB used and receiver they are all Factors

I take it that a quad Inverto black lnb & a vu+ solo2 arent going to be the problem here, just my location?

How can I be certain that a TD88 will be good enough to get 7w & 26e from where I am?
Is there a website or something that I can type my postcode into and find this out?

Not really most of the information is collected from fellow members on the forum who have a similar setup and are in different parts of the UK, I know that a lot of the NW of England can get 26? and 7? on a TD88 up here so i would imagine further south you should be fine as the margins increase when you travel past the Midlands.

As i say dont hold me to that as every install is unique and what one person can receive at there property does not mean the same can be achieved just half a mile down the road.

you are allowed a 1m dish by law so your neighbours cant say jack as long as you position your dish correctly. a gibertini 104cm dish would be best but they are not cheap. a 1m orbital is a good performer and not much more than a triax td88 in price, the inverto black ultra twin performs slightly better than the quad according to reports and with a quad you will only be able to run a slave box in future on the spare 2 ports.regards mdt

I read somewhere that although fibo class this as a 90cm dish it actually measures more than 120cm.
                            Is this the case?

                              Thanks for the information.
How would a gibertini 85cm dish compare with a td88 from a performance point of view?
I dont think gidertini make anything between an 85cm & a 104cm do they?
