    New to Sat need advice"

I am moving over to stay with family in Ireland for a while and I currently have a Dreambox 500C which has served me well, but unfortunately the area I am moving to is out in the country and does not have cable.

I'm not to bothered about that but I would like to get a satellite system up and running when I get over there for FTA channels and radio.

I'm new to the satellite scene and am not sure what to go for but I would like to pick up all the UK channels as well as the Irish channels and radio.

I would have went for Sly's basic package but I won't get all the channels I want due to regional rrestrictions, I would also like a receiver that is capable of recording.

Is this achievable? Any help would be appreciated.

I reckon the dreambox 600pvr is the best option for you

      Cheers m8,

Dreambox 600 PVR sounds good from what I've read about it.

What size of dish do you think I should go for and do you think that I would be better getting a motorised dish or just getting a fixed?

I personally have a fixed 1m dish, I live in greater london and the dish has 3LNBs- Astra 28.2 (sky) Astra 19- european stuff like premiere- great for football and Hotbird 13- plenty of the "other"

I dont believe in going for motorized dishes- ive found that many people who have them where I live have too much trouble with them- i prefer a 4 way diseqc switch to switch easily and quickly between LNBs

the DB600 is good- it has a better tuner and is replaceable- so you can replace it with a DVB-C tuner if you ever choose to use cable tv in England again and they have hard disk capability - so they use laptop hard disks- great for recording stuff

Keep it simple, a 1m dish, plus a 20 degree vision kit would let you cover 28E to 9E with the minimum of problems.

Recently went motorised and have never had a full days service. I've now got my installer's private mobile no on speed dial! He's even joked that he would go bust with out my constant calls for help.

You would be really limiting yourself going for a fixed dish with a multi arm bracket...not to mention more costly...any motorised
dish set up correctly will serve you well for years to come...also
not that hard to set up with a little time and patience....the side of my house is like a wind tunnel and the dish hasnt moved once...also i would go for 1m so you can get good reception of weaker birds like 16e and 24.5w...
