    Saorview box RTE

I want to get rte channels without going down the usual dreambox route..I have heard its a saorview box you need and will give you the four irish channels without needing a broadband connection...

Can someone elaborate a bit more on the subject as Im not too sure how it works or if its legal. I know a guy doing it for ?300 locally but that seems very steep...

I was reading that but I am from the north and thought boosters for aerial might be needed or aerial may need to be pointed in a didfferent direction

saorview sat uses spot beams and needs a specialised sat box and dish pointed at 9e if I remember correctly (but is free)

cactikid knows more about it if you ask him or if he sees this and replies

Saroview what the OP posted about is the Freeview UK equivalent received via an aerial: http://www.saorview.ie/

Saorsat is the KA band equivalent broadcast from 9? east : SAORSAT | SAORVIEW

thanks, so its like our freeview and freesat , but its saorview and saorsat (in that case its strange he posted about what is actually freeview, in a satellite forum, so I naturally tuned into the satellite version which as you say is saorsat)

in that case, as he seems to be in ulster and not eire I think he will have problems receiving it, and he will need an aerial pointed in a different direction compared to his freeview aerial

I thought he would be looking at the satellite option on 9e, assuming he can actually get the spot beams , but then you would think he may have tried the scrambled ones on 28e

seems to me that he should think about all the options available, seeing as how the freeview version (saorview) may not actually reach his location, and I also think he may need a specialised box to receive it (unless a combo box can manage it ? )

its all in the equipment and location (as usual)

Yeah, Ive been reading on the website and yeah i may be able to get it through my tv aerial but does not say if I need to change direction of it and if i do then I would probably loose freeview so id say Id need another aerial. I suppose thats the same for my fixed sky dish, if I need to point at 9e then will need another dish or a motorised version...

Will investigate further, would prefer to get it done cheapest way possible without scrambled way on 28.2e as Im looking to pick up irish channels without a internet connection

it depends where you are here is a chart for you to check.
Step 1: Check Coverage | SAORVIEW

saorview really need a lan connection or you wont get an epg which in turn is needed for recordings

if the mods dont mind this link
                Code:
                http://www.tvtrade.ie/digital-tv-aerial-selection-guide.html
he does loads of u tube videos to help the public.

you can also get combo boxes saorview.sat on 28.2.

reading the first post and ?300 maybe not depending on what you get is it a sat dish and aerial dish combined as many are buying a combo box so have the best of both worlds.

So your saying it's possible I can get rte using a basic saorview with my tv aerial if it's pointed in the right direction and I'm in an an area of coverage. But I will def get rte with the saorsat combo box with my fixed sky dish pointing 28.2e

Yeah that guys pretty good, have watched a few of his other vids, must get a read through it

                  Cheers

I believe saorsat is on 9e not 28e, cacti will know though

                    Testing started in May 2011 on KA-SAT 9E, 20.185 GHz DVB-S2 SR25000 FEC 1/2 with pre-recorded material.

                    from the wiki

RTE is on 28.2? east but is not free: Search Results for - KingOfSat

For 9? east you will need a bigger dish roughly an 80cm or 90cm with a KA Band LNB and not a standard KU Band LNB

probably cheaper getting an aerial set up if you can get it that is

no not on 28.2 as its encrypted,by using the link on my previous post and filling in the details you can see if you can get it by saorview box,a lot of people are saving money by combining saorview and sat so as no bills from sky/upc.

no idea on saorsat as its not listed for you

hi this can get confusing, if you get a combo box ie one that can receive TERRESTIAL and SATELLITE then with the correct aerial and dish you can have FREEVIEW the uk DIGITAL TERRESTIAL TELEVISION(DTT) SAORVIEW the Irish DTT, saor is the irihs for free, then using the dish you can receive all the FREE TO AIR (FTA) eg BBC1, hd, ITV etc but the epg is usually now and next for the sat channels, for DTT its 7 days epg. A ferguson 150 is used a lot in Ireland BUT it would be worth checking to enusre it can pick up freeview and saorview.

The reason a combo is such good value for the irish reception is that in the past to get a good rte picture you needed a sky sub at 27 euro a month, = 324 a year. The combo box is about 98 euro = no brainer.

SAORAT does not show TV3 and 3e which is a bummer.

look at terrestial baords ie for more information
