    Multi LNB Setup

    Hi

Looking for some advice/guidance on a multi lnb setup. For the last couple of years I have had a motorised dish setup with a single receiver.

I am now looking to move to a multi lnb setup primarily to distribute the signal to more rooms and to switch satellites independently, also (not as important) to speed up the channel switching.

Ideally, I would like the multi to look at 13,19,23.5,28.2 east with quattro lnbs so I can distribute to 3/4 rooms around the house.

    A few questions,
is it possible to have quattro lnbs that close together?
if so, any suggestions for the lnbs and lnb bracket?
from what I understand I'm going to need a 17x8 multiswitch, does that make sense?
currently I have a 1m dish circular dish, I assuming this dish would be suitable for a multi lnb setup?
    if not, any recommendations?

Any advice from the experts out there would be much appreciated.
Let me know if I have missed out any vital information required to answer the questions.

    Cheers

    Matt

You can use the multi switch or you could use 4 4 way diseqc switches (one for each box) these will be much easier to configure than multi switch as diseqc 1.0 is much easier to set up. You will also be hedging your bets this way as if something goes wrong with expensive switch you will have no signal to any box and an expensive repair bill where as if one ?5 diseqc switch fails you will still have signal to 3 other receivers and a much cheaper replacement cost. This way would also allow you to use quad lnb instead of quattro. I currently have those sats plus 9e running to two boxes using 2 diseqc switches.

        Thanks for your replies.

happy_highlander, your reply has made me focus on my requirements. Initially I was thinking of taking 2 feeds to each room and combining a terrestrial feed leading me down the multiswitch train of thought.

All I really need is 2 feeds to room 1 and a single feed to rooms 2 & 3. A combined terrestrial feed is not that important to me. Hence I will follow your advice and go with the diseqc switches and save myself some cash and hopefully a lot of set up hassle.

        Cheers

I have something similar setup using a dish with quads on it and can confirm its simpler and easier to install and use using the standard diseqc methods

I suppose you could even use octos if any extra feeds are required, instead of quattros and specialised switches, you can actually but 8 way diseqc switches too so room for expansion if needed in the future

I have an 8 way committed/uncommitted switch that has terrestrial input as well (so 9 in 1 out I suppose) running the 5 sats to my vu+ and is very easy to configure and can be daisy chained using the same type of switch I.e uncommitted type giving stupid options of lnb around 164 I think it is in total. (Never going to happen) because I am only going to use 8 max I have it running in diseqc 1.1 uncommitted mode only and is very easy to set up. But it is more expensive at ?30 from Germany or ?79 of you can find one in uk. Switch is emp centauri profi range just incase you fancy a look for possible expansion.

If your looking at a switch range then i can recommend as well as the EMP-Centari range they are very robust and have the oprion to use either Quads or Quattro's in a sytem, They do a 17 in 4 out but expect to pay around 150 euros including postage so not cheap but this will combine either a UHF or VHF on the downlink connections.

But i would go with what Ramjet and HH have said and get 4 separate Diseqc switches and if you want to combine an Aerial feed onto one of the downlinks then a Combiner with wall plate should be no more than about ?30.

On the last page of the thread i linked you too you will see mine with 4 rocket smart quads all into 4 X 4/1 Diseqc switches going to four different rooms

              Regards

Looks good digicon, have you got any photos of the rear side of the dish? Would be interested to see how you secure the switches to the dish.

                Cheers

I dont sorry as it is Chimney mounted i just attached the switches the the back of the chimney with cable ties to the Aerial lashing kit i just put up so they are hidden away.

One tip if you for the switches look for a brand that has a low loss DB output, the ones i have only have a 2db loss where as most can lose 3-4db which for some TP's on satellites is the difference between a picture or not.

                  Regards

I think that best antenna for multi-LNB-setup is Toroidal T-90. And if you have 10 Quad LNBs and 4 1/10 Diseqcs, than it is possible to independent watch of channels from 10 satellites on 4 receivers.
