    Blade HD 7000 Stream Problem

    Hi Guys,

When I play mkv's using this I'm not getting any audio coming though my TV, the video for the most part plays ok, there is some sticking on it and some don't play at all but there is no audio whatsoever playing with the video.

Anyone else using this and getting video and audio through there TV?. Or does anyone know why this is happening.

I should add that tonight is the first time I've tried it.

    thanks

You should also take into consideration that MKV is not a standard it is a Container that holds not only Video & Audio but data such as subtitles etc...

So you would have to find out what type of MKV files the Blade can Handle in other words whats actually inside the container.

Most HD MKV's are non standard anyway and could hold DTS/DTS-HD audio which the blade and most other High End Satellite receivers cannot play even now

Even certain Video formats could cause an issue such as AVC,VC-1 codecs

The list literally goes on, Personally these things are Satellite receivers first and foremost if you want a media centre/player either build one I did and it pays everything i throw at it even has a satellite card in it just in case or buy one of the cheap Multimedia network players and you wont have a problem

    Regards

Thanks digicon for clearing that up, just tried a playing a bulk standard .avi file through it and it play no problem with video and audio. But as most of my collection is in mkv or Blu Ray format looks like I will have to build a HTPC.

I have 1 of them all media players here but it can only support up to 2TB harddrives.

not really a satellite issue as such, but I have always found that a vu can play almost anything thrown at it too, either using a nas or using an internal hdd or external usb stick. this would tend to mean that the codecs are up to date on the players being used in the plugins or images for the vu receivers. alternatively you get varyting results like the OP when using a blade or spider or dm800 or similar boxes. as digicon says, its not a dedicated mkv or mp4 or avi file player and does its best but will always find files it cannot play, meaning you may have to regenerate those files on a pc into a suitable audio and video format before using them

one thing you will always find in any satellite forum is "you get what you pay for" and "buy cheap and you buy twice". a duo or solo2 costs twice the price of the blade but when it comes down to the fact that you have 2 tuners, various plugins like 1channel or icefilms or crossepg, can stream in and out from a nas or a pc, can serve cs as well as receive it, can play almost any video file or audio file, its only then you realise that the cheaper or midrange boxes dont quite cut it. all these factors are rarely considered when buying a box because people always want the cheapest they can find, yet they dont tend to do that with cars or with mobile phones

dont get me wrong, the blade is a good box, especially as a secondary box, but its really shown up by the vu receivers and presumably any other similar linux based receivers

Yep gotta agree with you ramjet, you do get what you pay for. The Blade is downstairs my Mother is using that so I was only trying out the Stream software to see what it was like. Gonna stick to the PC at least I've got all formats covered there . And at least I have my Brothers PS3 connected through PS3 Media Server ( really need something like this for the Blade).
