    Newbie: Protek MK-I

    Hi,

I'm new to all of this. Ive got a new receiver, i can get all the free / unscrambled stuff but cant get a lot of channels that are showimg a $ sign.

My box is connected to my router, in plugins its says CAMD and thats it - anyone know where im going wrong, i dont know if its me, the bix or the software.

    Thanks,

depends what satellite you are pointing the dish at (you didnt say) - if its 28.2 east you wont decode anything with a $ sign

You need to contact your supplier of the Box as the protek come with a so called 'Gift' for channels but as ramjet stated none for 28.2? east, you need the patched software or if it was supplied patched you need a motorised dish to make full benefit of it.

then you need to do a search for the patched software for the box, if it is not available on here then try google

What model number is the protek box as the MK-1 was discontinued some time ago and could have had the Ethernet function disabled which means either source your own 'Gift' or buy another box

My friend has a protek 9720HD box and a dish with 19.2 & 13 degrees and went off the other, I just turned off & on the router & the box and it all came back on. His box only has a gift for the channels available from these sats, don't think these boxes do anything else.

Model Number is on the front of the box

in post #1 you said its a new box

but those model details are from an old box that is discontinued and was made a few years ago, indicating its not new

Protek MK-1 HDTV Full HD Linux Satellite Receiver

                          Discontinued Product

The new Protek MK-1 is based on the unix 500 by protek packed with many advanced features and now gives the same support plus more including the best from HD TV.

linux based. The unit comes with a single DVB-S2 tuner, but you can always add a second tuner (DVB-S2, DVB-C or DVB-T).Not included.
So I think its the old mark one version that digicon mentioned was no longer supported - in which case it may be that it will only work with an n line

                            Ok,

Sorry - I have owned it for 3 days and its never worked fully, however it is a discontinued version.

When I say new, I mean never been used.

Its probably had the Ethernet 'Gift' switched off by now due to the age with the proteks you can get anything from 12-48 months before they switch the MAC off at there end.

As Ramjet clearly stated you will now have to look for another 'Gift' to work with the box
