    Faulty LNB?

I've got a Dynavision Spark (basically a rebadged Fulan, SH4 and ST7111 chipset) on an 80cm motorised system. Over the last few days it's started randomly giving the 'Tune Failed' message, sometimes as soon as it comes out of standby and others after watching the channel for a bit. When it comes up tune failed, none of the channels work, the motor won't move and has no led on. This happens on both E2 and the official spark software. It currently has the latest HDMU image on it, HDMU 11297. The motor, dish and LNB have been installed for 6-7 years.

Does this sound like a faulty LNB? I realise it could be the motor, but that moves when the tune doesn't fail, and I thought i'd start at the cheapest option and work upwards! I have tried the dish and motor on 2 other boxes (an old TM 1000D and a sly+ box). Neither got a signal. I also tried the Spark box with a feed from my fixed dish for my HTPC and that worked fine and the channels appeared, as soon as I swopped back to the motorised dish, nothing. I've also noticed that even in standby when running E2 it will reboot itself after about 20-30 mins. This has not happened before, i've even tried other older images that have been fine but all do it now.

    Any help/suggestions/theories greatly appreciated,
    Thanks

a sly box wont work as it needs a direct feed from the dish at 28e but cannot control the motor, so the dish has to be parked on 28e

the tm 1000 will work fine on sd channels and operate the motor and lnb, so is a valid test - yes

could be a cable fault , or an lnb fault , or both

Thanks for the quick reply. Thought i'd got all the info in but must have forgot to mention it, the dish was (and still is) parked at 28E when tested with all boxes.
I've bought a new LNB which should hopefully arrive in the next few days, so i'll try that and see how it goes.
Would the LNB and/or cable fault also cause the reboots?
      Thanks

impossible to diagnose without replacing each one individually, but I suppose you could have a fault drawing too much current causing the shutdowns or reboots

the tm1000 should definitely work ok on bbc1 and itv in any case, so if that doesnt work there is a fault, you can be sure of that

Just a quick update: New LNB arrived, fitted it this afternoon. To start with still got 'Tune Failed' in E2. Rebooted it into the official software and it started working. Booted back into E2 and so far so good, motor works and everything!
One more quick question: On BBC World News on thor i'm now getting an snr of 63% (shown in Pli HD skin). Does this sound about right for my setup as can't remember what it was before I changed the LNB. New LNB is an Inverto Black Eco 0.1dB, still on an 80cm dish, and i'm in Gloucestershire.
          Thanks

On an 80cm in your location it should be higher 80's even approaching 90's although you bought a cheap LNB which is great for strong satellites you should really have got a Black Ultra

Thanks for the reply. I'll have a play around with LNB position/skew when I get chance and see if it makes any difference. I noticed the encrypted version on the same sat comes in at 67% strangely. They were all fine and watchable on this sat with the old LNB that came with the dish, which I hadn't realised was a Lidl own branded one!
