As a Spiderbox owner myself I can assure you that it is not a problem as such and all that has happened is your "Gift" has expired now that your receiver is older than 12 months.
This means your receiver is no longer simply a plug & play device and you now need to learn how to configure the receiver "manually" for it to open the channels you wish to view from now on.

Softcams do not require an internet connection to work. As for updating your "Gift" patches all you have done is updated the firmware to the latest version for your receiver.
After twelve months the "Gift" expires which means what was once open to you is now closed. Now that your device is older than twelve months the developers assume you have in this time learned how to programme the device yourself so you no longer need the "Gift". You need to learn how to maually set the fields yourself from now on for the receiver to work via ethernet once again.
If you are seeing a "Not Connected" message in the bottom right hand corner of your screen when you go to a channel that was previously open and your connections to the internet are not broken then your "Gift" has expired and will not be reconnected.

If you are still having connection issue it could be your router only works wireless and not through Ethernet, just get a laptop and switch off wireless connection and connect direct with Ethernet connection that way you will able to illuminate your broadband working fine and you can then concentrate on some thing else.
