    ok here goes

may not be in the right section so i apologise upfront if it aint

right im moving house form a cable supplied area to an area that i will have to use a satellite dish

now when it comes to any recivers for cable im pretty much clued up on

but as it stands for satellite im stumped

so is there anyone who can point me in the right direction of a decent setup and a rough idea of what channels i would be able to get

dont want to just jump in there an purchase any old setup would rather asked before i dived in

    cheers

first let me say that even though this sounds like gloom and doom i'm a optimist and think we will soon get some channels open again, in the last 20 years iv'e never had nothing to view, i just want to give you my honest view on the satellite hobby at the moment in time.things are not to good at the moment, most of the satellite channels
we had open have now changed to other encryptions
like nagra 3, i'm sure you know is said to going to this on cable soon and are now no available without a subscription untill a fix and files are available again, and it's anyones guess as to if or even when this will get
sorted, as for satellite set ups i would always go for a motorised system then you can get what ever's available from all the satellites, fixed systems limit your choice. as for receivers i think if your good with networking and
are prepared to do a lot of learning then go for a linux receiver ie: like the dreambox then you can with a subscription card join a share circle and get lots of channels open that are not available with other sat receivers the rules here dont allow cardshare discussion so you need to goole for info on this subject. there are lots who use the technomate receivers and the diablo cam and untill recently had lots of channels open but now with all the changes the patched technomate only opens digi-tv on thor 1w plus a few other chns on the other satellites, i would therefore say hang fire and get more opinions from other members and wait and see how things go as for getting channels back before you spend a large amount of cash then youwill get the best set-up and save yourself a lot of cash,

yeah i knew the security was changing on cable and did suspect sly wld get there backdoor bolted shut asap too
i guess its a difficult time to find a decent setup with all the changes going on
might have to bite the bullet an become a subscriber again haha all good things must come to an end till next time

like benny/9 says you defo need to go motorised..its easier than it may look to set up....
Another option would be to go for an ip box like the one i have..
they are really easy to set up and all you need is an internet connection, quite cheap too!!!....it has 16 packages open at the
moment..all the major ones apart from slyuk/italia...its free too!!

IP boxes like the nano have cardsharing servers set up by the manufacturers to help sell more and more receivers! Thing is once that company think they have had all the customers possible they will but off that server for that box and release a new box with new server..its a money making scandal!

I bought my Innovative, which was the forerunner to the Maxx.. I paid ?60 for it and got 12 months out of the server before it started playing up.. ?60 for a season of EPL was ok really

Also the nanoxx will work on ANY newcamd server as well as the
free server...like mine is doing...so if and when the free server went down you are NOT left with a dead box and can connect to any server..just like the dreambox...ITS not a money making scam and this box has lots to offer!!!
Unfortunately some forum members cant see beyond the dreambox!!! and could also have their servers switched off..

Sky is not open.. if you want Sky then buy an official receiver and subscription..

Sky dishes point at 28E which is not open.. IP boxes open a few packages on 13E and 19E

If you want european satellite then look at either a Dreambox or IP receiver.. however the ammount of channels that open are getting smaller as encryption improves..

Google 'Cardsharing' if your serious (and IT savy) about opening Pay TV
