    Budget Sat & Cable Box?

    Hi,

I'm looking to get a budget combo box for both satellite and cable and not sure what to go for.

I have both a 500c and 500s so simple choice would be openmedia 500cs but I think I might start getting annoyed after a while because you have to switch the box off to change between sat and cable.

    Any recomendations?

    Cheers.

You could go for a dreambox dm7025 which can take a cable tuner , sat tuner and hard drive. I would say that it is not exactly a budget box.

Why do you want a two in one when all you have to do is remotely switch A/V? Thats harder then getting up two flick a switch

If your on a budget then the openmedia is your only option.. I take it this is to add to your existing set-up.. Is it for another room..? I only ask as I see no info to suspect your dreamboxes are broken or faulty

Yeah sorry, its for another room where I don't have sat or cable. So instead of buying 2 boxes, I'm looking for 1 box to do both.

I think openmedia is the only cheap option and then its the more advanced version of dreamboxes (i.e. 7025). I'm not familiar with any other boxes apart from dreamboxes and the reason I posted the question as I see there are other boxes with dual tuners etc but apart from having a quick read, don't really know anything about them.

          Cheers.

if your happy with the D500 S&C then Openmedia is perfect.. you will be in your comfort zone.. If its for a spare room its ideal at its price.. you will have to update your LNB though or put a splitter on your sat cable as well as splitting your Cable optics

You need to consider depending where you are living and what providers you intend using because encryptions are changing at the moment and a lot of providers both Cable and Satellite are switching to Nagra-3 which is not open / hacked a lot of users are faceing Blank Screens....

I would not spend any money at the moment because you could be only going out to buy a new receiver again in a few months, the reason why receivers are cheap at the moment is because there is very little open regarding Satellite and this will become the case with cable services soon enough...

                    Regards:

Thank you Alun. BUt i am not sure that is hacker a lot. Is it?

Basically what I had in mind was....(..dont know if it is feasible tough, that is why the question), was to have a openmedia 500cs to talk whit 2 other boxes (one of them would be my dreambox 500C) in my home via my internal network. I have sat + cable conections at my living room but just sat at the other rooms. that would be a solution to have sat+cable tv in the other rooms witouth cable conection. what do you think?
Basead in your previous answer of course I would think twice before buy any box now.

                      Regards

I would say that you are better off buying the Openmedia box because you already have cable and you could use these boxes on cable until such times as when cable goes pearshaped. When this happens you could then switch over to the satellite side and try and pickup whatever is available at that time in the future. There is no purpose in your cable boxes talking to each other on your home network but your sat boxes will have some advantages if they can talk to each other and the internet.

is the future of sat receiver so limited as cable satelite. Wondering to buy a DM500 S them.... For how can I expect to use this box for? and what would be the best sat budget box at the moment? I am also wondering how can you guys be sure that a new encryptation system is caming up soon...? or is just an expeculation, guess....Just curious.
