    Sky contract up soon...

So my sky contract is about to run out at the end of next month & I heard about a guy I know getting a cloud ibox fitted for ?150 for 12 months subscription so I thought it was about time I perhaps looked into the possibility of getting the same set up which is how I found this forum this morning.

I began to read about the cloud Ibox on some threads & to be honest it has kind of put me off a little with the thought of it over heating, I wouldn't want to take a chance on something if it is going to be a hazard in the long run. I then found "VU+ Solo HD Enigma 2 with Blackhole image" already installed on ebay for ?125.99 delivered.

So I have a few questions, sorry if these sound totally stupid, I've never ventured into this before.
    1. What kind of channels would I likely to get on these boxes in Northern Ireland? (I assume that you can't tell me exactly how to get some channels but I guess that all of the sky sports, movies, doc's etc are available??)
    2. Is it possible to get other foreign sports channels that would have football not available in the Uk? (same as above I know we can't talk about details but a yes or a no answer will be fine).
    3. Are paid subscriptions a must with either of these 2 boxes (mentioned above) or is it just a matter of installing firmware?
    4. What is the legal issues surrounding these boxes in general?
    5. Is there any other equipment to consider when thinking about getting a box other than the sky+ dish that is already installed?

Again apologies if some of the questions asked are stupid & also thanks in advance for any help.

most of what you asked is illegal and also against the rules here

you could google the info but as always you could pay some money out and it fail 5 minutes later with no compensation as you should not have paid anyway

the box will always get the freebie channels from any satellite you point the dish at, but you should not be relying on it as its a hobby and not a necessity

this thread http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-setup-301108/ covers most of the info we can give you in public

you wont get any foreign channels from a sly dish either, you ideally need a motorised dish for that

but dont expect people to explain illegal viewing to you as its aiding and abetting a criminal act !

I'm not asking people to explain illegal viewing hence question number 3 where I mention paid are paid subscriptions needed ie, like when you terminate your sky contract you can still use the sky box for free channels..

Question number 4 was a general question about these boxes.. I'm not great when it comes to things like that hence why i was asking if they are even legal.

I've read the following topic & I don't think I broke any rules

          http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f5/forum-rules-2/
talking about sly and sly contracts for one thing

trying to get info about illegal alternatives for another (swapping legal for illegal)

asking about cs (sharing) services from illegal s*rvers is another

the list goes on, especially when you are a newbie and naive

so your opening post scenario , and 1 and 3 and 4 all break the rules

read the thread I linked to for valid info that we can write about

            2) - no

            5) - a motorised dish on a south facing wall for "foreign channels"

Well mate .. the first rule you broke was questionig the advice given by Moderators and Veterns alike ..

Discussions about cardsharing are not allowed, including, but not limited to, cccam, gbox, mbox, etc.
Discussions about hacking or modifying Sky receivers will be removed...

Think you may have missed these two ..????
So lets leave the subject at that eh! ..

                3) there is no such thing as a legal valid paid subscription for any of the 3rd party boxes, only for the box supplied by the service provider (like your sly card in your sly box)

                4) viewing pay channels without a legal subscription is illegal , the boxes are not illegal

think of it as owning a kitchen knife is legal, using it to hurt somebody is illegal

Thank you this is why I have asked here first. I'm totally stupid when it comes to this stuff..

I was unaware that there was no such thing as a paid subscription to "3rd paty boxes".. When I heard someone had paid ?150 for 12 month I thought it was a bargain to get tv channels compared to sky's prices.

Thanks for your answer on q4.

It appears there is a reason why that guy got a bargain.. Guess I'll just be keeping my contract after all..
