Diamond shaped dishes are they any good?

A friend of mine asked me about how good a diamond shaped dish was reception wise compared to a traditional shaped dish of the same size. The dish in question is a Fracarro Penta 68cm.

After he explained to me why he wanted that particular shape and size due to the area of his house where he is hoping to mount his dish I understand why he's opting for this type of dish as it should fit neatly on his wall where an oval/round one wouldn't.

However I had to admit I didn't know much about them as I hadn't dealt with one before so could anyone give me any info to pass onto him before he buys one?

Any help appreciated as always and thanks in advance.

I've fit a couple of the penta's and to be honest I've never noticed any thing that would justify the extra ?15-20 some people just like the look of them I think that's the only reason to me fitting them anyway I'd stick with standard dish and use the spare cash on an ultra black.

Thanks for clearing that up Jim my friend wants one so that it will fit close to a window without obstructing the corner of it or something. Glad for his sake that he won't lose any reception due it's shape.

general train of thought is that they are very efficient at there job so if you had a standard 70cm dish working at 70% and a penta or similar working at 75% then the penta would put more signal than noise through to the tuner than the standard off-set round/oval one. regards mdt
