    Receiver Recommendations

Recently new to all this so dropped Sky in favour of a SkyBox F5S and must admit I wish I had done it years ago. Anyways perfect viewing for what I needed it for but am now after something with a bit more ummppfff.

The SkyBox is great as a Bedroom Box but I want something with the same features but a lot better EPG/Mods etc.

I was currently looking @ a VU+ Duo , but would like some other recommendations if people could point me in a direction.

Currently using a SkyDish but will be purchasing a motorized in the near future and prob looking around the ?200-?300 mark for a receiver.

    Any advice much appreciated.

As said above, look no further than a Vu+ solo2. Worth paying the little bit extra for it rather than the duo.

Another vote for the solo 2 it is the top of your price range and will be a huge learning curve but the more effort you put in the more you will get from the box

some of the addons may not work or be difficult to implement on a clone or alternative, so do not buy them is my advice

the genuine solo2 or duo2 will do what people are asking for, or the tm twin which is similar to the older original duo which is what I use (the duo)

have a look at the xtrend 6500 single tuner but great spec, if your wanting a twin tuner i would hang on until the xtrend 10000 comes out ,the xtrend range has good support and is e2

With the vu+ uno the security chip is on the plug and play tuner. So in essance you can buy a clone then install an original tuner allowing the box to run original images without fault or any patching needed. How do I know this works ??? Because I have an original twin tuner in my uno clone and can run any original image with the same boot times as an original uno

Buying a receiver is bit like buying a TV: do you want or need the latest gizmos, and pay the price, or something that does just what you want at a cheaper price. At least with the sky boxes I remember they were nothing special, and the popular receivers I know of will be better than them.

To be fair I want it all for nothing or very cheap!, doesn't everyone. Highlander I don't think I would be able to do that but I might do some reading up as that sounds my cheapest option! Thanks

Why wouldn't you be able to do it. It is designed for that. It is called plug and play tuner for a reason. It is four screws then pull out clone tuner and plug in original dual tuner. It is just like putting in a stick of desktop pc memory. It may be the cheapest option but is still ?200 (?140 for clone uno and ?60 for dual tuner). I done it as a bit of an experiment as I was ordering a couple of clone solos for friends and tbh I would recommend a clone single tuner uno to anyone for ?50 more than a solo it's a steal in performance comparison as it takes an internal hdd 2.5"or 3.5" you could add the dual tuner at a later date if money is tight. You can buy an original uno with dual tuner fitted for around ?250ish maybe a bit less but if you are going over 200 you have got to go the little extra and buy the solo 2 which I would still recommend over every dual tuner except the duo 2
