    Bad Weather

    Hi all,

Recently we've been havin spots of bad weather and we have been losing our sky signal 28.2 east for a couple of minuets due to heavy cloud cover - always happens on a Saturday after noon when we're busy.

Am I right in thinking that if change the sky zone dish 1 to a zone 2 or 80cm this would reduce the signal loss?

    Cheers

your dish is probably slightly out of alignment but a larger dish will always give you extra weather margin.... something like a triax TD64CM and inverto black ultra would be my choice but a zone2 will do a good job for less money, regards mdt

just a suggetion for you... if you are going for a lager dish and inverto black ultra then for the price why not get yourself a cheap usals motor aswell and get many more channels/sats. you could get something like a TD78CM, tm2600 motor, inverto black ultra lnb, L bracket and cable/clips for about ?100 all in. you can fit it yourself with the guides on here and you would be amazed at whats available with softcam/biss/fta. regards mdt

heavy cloud cover should not stop you getting reception from a sly dish

on the other hand, heavy rain would and does block it and even will do so on a larger dish

so I too have recently lost sat signals for a time due to heavy or torrential rain (not cloud cover) and that is always to be expected so do not assume a larger dish and inverto lnb will stop this. yes they will help as dish sizes and lnb choice does matter, but the signals from astra 2 at 28e are very strong anyway so in general a standard dish will suffice which it does for millions of sly subscribers

but a bigger motorised dish with inverto lnb will always be a good idea

We've got a basic set at the moment with a motor but it's in desperate need of updating, been thinking of a triax 1.2m - want to install a reliable system that easy to use.

I've been using various system for a couple of years but today is the first time I've heard of Biss. Are we allowed to talk about them on the forum and if so what does this enable you to achieve with the systems?

            Cheers,

biss is just an encryption and is opened with a suitable key (mdt posted the latest set of keys in his BISS key thread)

if you extract the biss key txt file and read it in notepad it tells you what can be opened and where from, and the key needed to do it on a patched box

I agree with @ramjet that even with a large 1.2m dish you can still lose the tv in heavy thunderstorms but i still feel personally that a zone1 dish is on the edge of reception for 28.2e even though the signals boom in i would always personally prefere a td64cm instead.... saying that with the new astra2e/f and eventually g satellites a mark4 zone1 eliptical dish should do the job in most of the uk. as an example on B*** i watched live EPL with english comms in HD today on 10east using B*** keys(there was a feed fta aswell but without comms) there is a wealth of channels/feeds available if your just willing to put the work in and thanks to the teams that find/publish the CW,S. regards mdt

agreed mdt, it just seemed to me that the OP seemed to think that increasing his dish size would stop the problem from happening , which it wont, and he also seemed to think it was due to cloud cover, which it isnt - so 2 assumptions that do not appear to be correct

its the heavy raindrops or ice that cause the problems and putting up a 10 metre dish will not solve that issue , never mind a 1.2 metre dish

but dish size does matter, as does lnb make and type , and will reduce problems, but wont eliminate them

so if he wants a darkmotor and 1.1 metre dish and inverto ultrablack lnb, he should buy it for the right reasons (that is my kit too) - but should not expect miracles

ps:- even some of the uplinks go dead when torrential rain strikes, and their kit is much better than ours

Cheers for your replies guys lots of interesting info here and you defiantly know your stuff.

I should have mentioned that when the signal drops it is raining very heavy but I thought it was the type of could cover effecting the signal. After reading your comments I know understand it more and can understand what's happening now.

Defo going to get myself a new system as well and the set which your using ramjet is what I had my eye on was well.

Appreciate your help with my questions

The weather is always going to have the potential to spoil the party, satellite needs a clear view, its just the way it works sadly.
