I have seen those 5800 boxes thanks shock. Cheap as chips but I don't think support is going to be that good when comparing it to the vu etc.. I'd like to record from EPG rather than recording via timer.. Think I've seen something like that on the DM or hopefully it's available on the vu?
You can use autotimer plugin to record via the epg on the 5800, support wise its pretty much the same plugins for every enigma receiver so you shouldnt have a problem.

It's pretty much the same situation for any box, the vanilla software is basic, its when you add the plugins etc they then become fun :-)

Given the choice i'd spend ?100 on a 5800 rather than a clone VU+ at least until i became familiar with the newer Enigma software and twin tuners.

Oh yes, very tempted mdt! BUT his shop is only 15 miles down the road, he's huge I'm small and I live on my own.. So as much as I'd like to out the pig as a pressure sales ?man? (light use of the word) I think I'll decline

Really? I'm still trying to get to grips with all this choice. I've seen what they do to the 5800 inside to get it to run Enigma - Aaaaahhhh, all those wires!

Just out of curiosity when they say 'modded' to get Enigma working do they mean something like an EPROM with extra on board memory or is the 'mod' already built in and just needs connecting. I remember years back when I used CB radio some CB's could be modded for more channel either way.
