    where to start?

Hi, i am a complete newbie but i really want a new satellite system (mainly for watching english football)

i have done some reading and i understand that this isnt a good time to purchase one as many channels have been encrypted and are now on nagra 3, which hasnt been hacked yet....

however people are talking about IP BOXES and linux based boxes to use via carsharing (which seems very hard and complicated to do?....)

i dont think the ipboxes do cardsharing, so im unsure how they unscramble channels, and why they would be immune to the nagra 3 update?

do people advise that i just wait, or show i just go for it? i dont mind spending some money on this but i want it to work, and not just turn off after a month etc...

    i have found a DREAMBOX DM 800HD PVR+ 1 METRE MOTORISED DISH for ?539....

this seems expensive, any idea's of how much i need to pay to get this installed ( i dont fancy going up a ladder!). Is this a good price, i would honestly like to spend around ?200-?300 but if the DM800HD is miles better than any other boxes then i would pay extra for the best...

anybody have links to the IP BOXES packages?

all advice will be much appreciated! ( sorry for all the questions!)

    HI.

I had a motorised dish fitted last year for ?175, new 1m dish, fixings, etc, after a few years of fixed dish. So worth a shop around.

Have a Technomate and Diablo cam. This was fantastic as opened many chanells, Digitalb, Canal etc. Recently changes in encryption have limited this, and Digi TV will soon be gone.

So, you either buy a subscription, say Digitalb for around ?220 for sport, there are others, Diema is around ?300 odd, with Bulgarian comentators. Nova, but thats upward of ?600.

You would be garenteed footy for the year.

Am thinking of going down the Nanoxx route my self. conects to a server via broadband, this somehow enables you to watch many different things.

It may last a month, maybe a year or more.

    Pays yer money, etc, etc.

okay IPBoxes do cardshare but in a difeerent way! IPboxes have a certain server run by the manufacturer of the box...this server shares most cards apart from that of SKY?....

why do you want such an expensive box..?? You can pick up a Dreambox 500S clone or Linux Blackbox 500S for around the ?65 mark..??

The DREAMBOX DM 800HD PVR is an excellent box but how many HD channels do you think you would clear..?? Not many is my estimate.. Also why does it have to be a PVR box..?? You state its for watching Football on, do you really need to pause live TV or record programs..??

An IP Box connects directly to a server and this server provides your pictures, basically it is connected to a massive server with loads of cards in.. You will clear a lot of channels, mainly Novasports GR and Digitalb which show English Football..

What team do you support..?? If its outside of the Top 4 you wont get to watch many games.. Most European braodcasters only show the Top 4's games.. like in this country you only see the best live Italian or Spansih games..

You can get a 1m dish for ?43.99, a motor for ?36.00 and an LNB for about ?10..

The DREAMBOX DM 800HD PVR is top end and ideal to eventually move up to.. If your a newbie i would suggest starting with the cheaper options first..

Ebay is littered with boxes people have bought but cant set up..

Dreamboxes and IP Boxes are great for watching sport.. they are not ideal for your main TV watching though.. SKY doesnt work well when being shared..

Have the european set-up for sports but get a basic Virgin, Sky, Freesat or Freeview setup for your normal viewing..

            i didnt say:

ebay is littered with unwanted DM500s
            i said

Ebay is littered with boxes people have bought but cant set up

If you want a 500S just type in Dreambox 500 in the search.. there's 6.. not really on topic this though is it..

Wooper & others I would wait for the release of the Dreambox 500s HD due to be on the market soon, it will be running on Enigma 2 it will have most of the functions of the more expencive versions of other Dreamboxs such as the 800 without a internal hard-drive but it will have USB ports to add a external Hardrive for PVR functions, its got the new Broadcom chip & extended memory, this in my opinion it the way to go ...

                  Regards:

Digitalb isnt open so you wont watch it without a cardshare, and a HD one at that..

Its not worth it mate for football and ~~~~..

I'd only get an HD box if i had a Sky HD sub

Firstly thanks to everyone for your help....

i didnt realise that getting a box that isnt pvr and HD would save so much money! i agree with you OPSMONKEY i dont really need to want HD that much anyway to be honest.

I already have sky downstairs and i have a "the box" in my room so im ok for normal tv viewing and slysports etc. If i buy a dish, motor, LNB seperate then would i have to set it up? and i really dont want to do that, id much prefer to buy a package and then i would want to get somebody else to install it for me....any idea's where is good and reliable to buy from?

Im a liverpool fan, im pretty sure they are shown everyweek on these channels, and i've been meaning to get one of these set-ups for years!

I like the idea of an ipbox it seems like it unloxks many things and seems less likely to get encrypted like so many of the other channles...do i have to share a card also, or do you pay for the service?

also what is a diablo cam and Nanoxx ?

                        thanks

A nanoxx is another ip receiver..the diablo is a decoding module used to open more channels but if you cardshare then a diablo is useless..
If you buy i ipbox receiver where there is a manufacturer server then you dont have to share a card back..

It doesnt matter if you buy it all together or seperate it will still need installing.. If you buy a motorised pack it doesnt come with an engineer inside the box

If you want to save a few quid buy it seperately

An IP Box is really clever.. You plug it into your router and it talks directly to a server and opens up a lot of channels.. However you are purely reliant on one server, if it goes tits up you aint getting any channels, and they do go tits up, frequently, but then they come back.. Its a risk, i used one for a year and was lucky i never missed a game, but then server went down and stayed down for a while.. It's free too.. but the company who make the boxes can turn off the server once the sales die off, then low and behold a new box hits the market

A dreambox is a lot harder to set up and requires a lot of knowledge, you will need to cardshare, its not an open topic here so you will have to use google to find out more..

If your IT skills are excellent then Dreambox 500 it mate..
If your IT skills are shabby then go down the IP Box route until you improve

Can i just add to the ip boxes, if the manufacturer server does go down i have been told that you can still use the box to connect to newcamd servers
