    Signal Strength 100% BER 0%

Had previous problems with signal and ended up putting two inline amps on cable which cured my problem of glitching and freezing been watching trouble free tv for a couple of days then today started freezing again rebooted box and ok for a couple of hours,
checked my signal strength previously and strength was 100% BER 0% just checked again today signal strength is 100% BER 10% but tv is watchable but gliches evey so often now on all channels. Does this mean I need a new LNB.

I might be wrong and stand to be corrected.... but I think that 0% BER is good as is 0% AGC.
I would personally take out the in line amps (signal too strong or too weak cause problems) and see what your getting on the fta channels first.
If you still have the problem on fta channels then swap out the lnb...............if not then try your other channels if they glitch check your ecm times...nuff said

Hi. It could also be a problem with cables or receiver if its old. To eliminate receiver , if possible, check on a different receiver. Is dish aligned properly and secured.??. If you think its the LNB try and borrow one and see if makes any difference. Its pointless wasting money on something thats not the problem.

        Regards.

already removed the inline amps getting a good picture just freezes now and again and have to go up one channel and back again to un-freeze and that's on all channels ppv and fta. then on some occasions picture breaks up and have to reboot and that does not always cure it.
I thought BER was the same as signal quality may be wrong. need a sat engineer to explain.

BER is the Bit Error Rate so the closer to Zero this is the better. '0' being the best

              1. Thanks Digicon I being a novice i feel such a fool now I have been confusing BER with signal Quality been searching and reading all night to try and understand what is what found this it may help someone else and stop them making the same mistake as myself.
              2. Thanks for your patience.

First, ensure that you have sufficient signal strength from satellite by going to Menu -> Setup -> Service Searching -> Satfind.
              3. Check the SNR, and BER indicators and as long as you have the dish pointing to right direction accurately, you should get high (depending on satellites, a good strength should be around 85% or higher) and AGC but with low BER (as low as zero for Bit Error Rate).
              4. Once satellite is locked, both LOCK and SYNC should get ticked. Note that this is a pre-requisite before you move to next step.

nutsandbolts is right, borrow if you can. I was having a few issues and bought a "new" Inverto lnb off the bay.. H* Dir**t, cheapest and worst. Didn't work...BER and AGC (automatic gain control) went up, load of S**t, ?19.99 down the drain, as they have never refunded or replaced it. If you can't borrow don't go to them.
As digicon state's 0 is best for BER, I think the same goes for AGC.
