showing sky in a pub off streaming

whats the law on this if its streamed also is it ok to show 3pm games on the other sats like thor and hotbird without a proper sky subscription thanks for any replys

the FA licenses the broadcasts for certain regions only and they hold the copyright on certain aspects of the transmission , its all been done to death on the forums many times over so have a search for the laws and judgements on this

but in simple terms, its illegal to show a broadcast in a public place unless you have the copyright holders permission to do so (or his agents) , usually by a legal subscription

in any case showing saturday games between 1500 and 1715 is illegal anyway as it breaks the FA rules to do so, hence not even sly do it (like I said, nothing to do with sly)

the ban on showing the sat 3pm kickoffs in E+W is absolute and has been for 20 years, that overrides anything else

these "foreign" broadcasts often have banners with warnings telling you the region they are licensed for, I saw them on al jazeerah recently whilst watching a match

Broadcasting in a public place anything that is copyright protected that you do not have the rights to broadcast is illegal

Just because it is a stream does not make it legal. You actually receiving the stream is not illegal, people watching it are not breaking the law, but the person or company "broadcasting" something that they do not have permission to is illegal.

Broadcasting being the operative word.

I think we need a definitive idea as to who the "broadcaster" is, as far as i am aware a tv set only receives a signal & doesnt broadcast one, only tv companies are the actual "broadcasters".

To be able to broadcast , you need a transmitter.

If you own the pub, and you put a TV in the room and allow the public on mass freedom to view something that you are not permitted to, you are broadcasting, or allowing broadcasting on your premises of material that you do not have the right to either broadcast or to be allowed to be broadcast. Regardless of whether that content is streamed or a live feed or satellite.

You are not allowed to have the radio on in a pub, office or workplace unless you have the correct license which permits you to have he copyrighted material played (see PRS).
