High SNR low AGC, aligning mini dish to 28.2 E

Hi, A week ago I tried installing a fresh brand new sly minidish, with a quad lnb, at a freinds house.
I got it up on the wall, ran all wires etc. I managed to get a signal [ using a few android apps ].
However, when I check the signal quality [ on a dm800se/openpli ] I get a SNR 70%, but the AGC 30-35 %. This is on Channel 4 HD and BBC1 HD. This seems very low to me as my own at home, shows SNR in the 90's and AGC in the 70-80's.
Is it a matter of tweeking or is something wrong with the coax as no matter what I tried the AGC would not go over 30-35 %.
Any one with knowledge or similar experience , your help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
Ive Just bought a cheap sat finder, and will attempt again tommorow [in the rain]

Hi. Do you get any channels at all?? If you get some channels then its not your coax cable but LNB or dish may need tweaking a bit. If you get no channels then double check cable/LNB connections and then move dish until a picture appears. Then its a question of tweaking until you get strongest signal possible. Also make sure you have correct frequencies otherwise you wont find anything. Hope this helps you.
    Regards.

      Thanks for quick reply
Yes , I get channels with strongish SNR 70%, But low AGC 30-35% some channels breakup and others like BBC/Channel 4 are good quality.
Hopefully , its a matter of tweaking. Having said that, no matter what I tried last week it would not improve my AGC percentage. Thats why I thought I might have to try another coax.

Hi. Good news that you are on the correct satellite and getting some channels. I suspect your problem may be dish alignment is slightly out rather than cable. I would try and put it on a channel that is breaking up and then slightly adjust the dish either left/right or up/down and see if it improves the picture. also try and tweak the LNB to see if it gives you better picture. I have never personally installed a mini dish but have found that a larger dish always give better quality signals than smaller ones especially in bad weather.
        Regards.

Again forget the AGC setting as it is not as important as SNR, I have an 800se myself and my AGC is reported as low as 25-35 on different satellites so dont worry about it, Also the SNR reading could vary on which Image you are using as well you say OpenPLI but not which version. I use V4.0 on mine which has the latest drivers from Oct last year which had tweaks for the tuner so if your using an older image you could be using older drivers which may result in the lower SNR reading

              Yes same here , Using a dm800se openpli 4.0 .
Its just that at my place the SNR , AGC are both high, but at the freinds place, the AGC only hits 30-35% with picture breakup.
Hopefully I'll get results when I try in the rain

As I already Explained for get about the AGC and concentrate on the SNR which is the Most important, All AGC does is regulate the incoming power of the signal so it does not so called overload the tuner sensitivty. Also dont forget you have a different LNB etc.. at your place so what will be valid at your house will never be the same somewhere else

With the amount of changes going on at the moment with Astra2E Signal levels could be all over the place.

right, so it was take 2 today, I used a cheap sat finder to aid me.
Not the best of days with rain and wind. However the highest SNR I got on channel 4 HD was 65-70%
I also had a coax in the original sly amstrad box. the following pic is the best I got.
                  20140205_163836.jpg 20140205_163852.jpg

All movies and sports seem to be working fine, but the international channels were mainly missing or breaking up.
Is it still a matter of tweaking, as thats what I tried today, with a similar result to the first day.
Its weird that the signal strength seems good but the quality is not so good.

Also the tick lock, on the openpli satfinder comes and goes randomly
                  any help is appreciated
                  thanks

OK time to explain forget trying ti line up on the official $ly box the reading your looking at is not even channel 4 HD which is on Astra 2F and literally blows receivers socks off with its SNR power.

The signal your looking at is the EPG transponder on Astra 2A which is the main TP stored for that signal bar adjustment which is Fixed in the official $ly receiver you cant change it or i should say you can but you will lose the EPG data

so dont take any notice because that TP will transfer with the rest of them in due course

                      Just to update,
I moved the dish 2-3 metres to the right and now I'm getting everything with good snr/agc levels.
                      Thanks for the help
