no signal on some channels ? set up not done properly

hi there just got a satellite dish 60 cm set up by a guy, working perfectly but after 24 hours i was getting bad signal 29 pour cent or 0 or sometimes more (astra) ,
i went to have a look at it ,realised there was no screw on the lnb so i started turning it a bit ,i do get a better signal but still not great, i put a screw on it when i got the best signal, i am not an expert on that at all, i do not understand why i get 86 pourcent on some channels and some of them i get 0 pourcent even though it's on the same satellite ASTRA ?? ( i have a motor usual ) SKY seems to work perfectly by the way,
they are some arrows on the lnb which i tried to align but still no succes
any advices on how to fix that ?

    thanks for any help

when your motor is pointing true south of you (so on zero) there should be no left or right skew on the lnb
so you only adjust the lnb when pointing at zero on the motor, so not on astra or astra 2

      What is 0 ? Is it 1.0w Thor 3 5

      I don't have a 0 satellite that's seems to be the closest ??

no, but you have a zero on your motor, which was what I mentioned , as I have no way of knowing your longitude and no way of knowing your country either , so I used the universal method of naming zero on your motor

but if 0.8w is your nearest to true south, then set the lnb on no skew on 0.8w

When you say 0 ? You want me to change the details above to 0 then adjust the lnb ??

no, just stick it on thor 0.8w (bbc world news) , then ensure the lnb has no left or right skew (so the coax points straight down)

              Since 1.0 W Thor is the closest I will try this one , I don't have 0.8 w
Also I don't have channels set up on on this so I'll go on the menu page where I can see signal quality ...
              I'll give it a try

I can't get any signal at all 1.0 w Thor
But now on Astra I get all the channels but it's a windy outside so all the channels keep jumping from 84 to 29 pour cent , what am I doing wrong?
Am I still not properly align ? Wind should affect the dish ? Never did where I used to live before ..
My dish isn't to small to pick up 1.0 w? I have a 60 cm only

Hi. Reason you dont get 1west is probably to do with your dish size..I dont think you will get 1west with 60cm but you should get 5west and 30 west no problem as well as 4.8east 13 east 19.2 etc etc . Also if your dish is not properly secured then you will get signal loss in windy weather..we all do. If you have a motor i would always recommend a 1m dish.

                  Regards.

Thanks for the reply , the dish is well secured on a post with a big slab and 2 heavy bags of sand however the picture keeps jumping to 29 pour cent every 20 minimum , I'll try to adjust the lnb when is less windy , and I will try to adjust on 5.0 w then.
Last question if lnb is not adjusted properly , should I not get any picture at all then ? Why would it jump like this ?
                    Thanks for your help

You will get 0.8?/1.0? west just probably the Spot1 and Spot 3 footprints as on a 60cm your just within limits but dont expect miracles, if you do line it up on 0.8? wet then try one of the channel from the UPC package try for CT24 which is 12687 V 27500.

You wont get the BBC world news any more as this is now on the K1 Nordic beam which would require something around 80cm and above for reliable reception, I understand why ramjet pointed you to this as normally this is the favourite to line it up on but as you did not give an indication of dish size till later thats one of the problems.

Thanks for tour help , still get reception 5.0 but I get good signal on Astra and sky so it's good enough for me , forgot to mention I'm not allowed to put a dish on my block but I still put it on my balcony under a cover , I now just put a cover around the dish and not the lnb , seems to work fine
                        Thank you for everything
