    Freeview in Spain Biss Box

I am an Ex Pat living in southern Spain where we have just lost all BBC and Freeview channels due to a Satalitte switch.

BBC, ITV and C4 have been broadcasting live channels on Intelsat 27 degrees west.

These channels are broadcast in full HD as well as SD and currently there are a range of BBC radio stations too.

This service often referred to as ?Sat Back? This serves as a back up transmission for UK digital terrestrial or freeview masts in the UK.
This service is not intended for public viewing. The signals are transmitted in an unusual symbol rate and are also encrypted.

However, there are certain consumer grade Satellite set top boxes that are capable of receiving these stations. The encryption method used is known as BISS.

Can anyone help with this please?

the blade 7000s sat receiver can also use biss keys for 27.5w , just like its cousin the tm5402 , there may be other sat boxes like a vu that can do this as well

as for streaming, this isnt the forum to discuss it but its always going to have possible problems if its down to internet speeds which will include freezing or glitching , even if you get past the IP locks (region locks) that may limit it to UK viewers only , gizmo or no gizmo , proxy or no proxy

I cannot see a smart tv working due to regional locks (geo-locks)

Here is a List of compatible receivers that will let you View the Channels on 27.5? west with a Biss key

TM5402HD - Blade 7000s - Technomate F3/5 - DrHD D15 - Clarke Tech 4100 your best bet would be to see which is available out of those the cheapest to purchase in your part of the world

My parents have the same problem in southern Spain as the OP. If they buy one of the boxes suggested on this thread in the UK and take it over to Spain then how does one install 3rd party software? and is it just a case of removing their old sky box and plugging in the new one? They don't have internet in Spain but they only require the free view channels.

patching boxes is generally done with usb sticks from pc files downloaded off the net , loaded to usb stick and patch the box
then you add the biss keys for 27.5w , no internet is required

the channels they require are not freeview , they are scrambled on 27.5w

they would also need a suitable dish pointed at 27.5w as well , so not its not the same as swapping boxes as much more work is required

the point here is that the new satellite is tighter onto the uk meaning fringe reception is much worse in southern spain
the point being that the uk channels do not want their content viewed in spain, not even outside the uk , not by satellite and not by internet either
these changes are deliberate and designed to cause this disruption to non-uk residents

so tech savvy people will get around the restrictions , but its not easy for the great "unwashed" any more , and the "get arounds" could fail at any time too

That's interesting, think they better leave it to the sat guys down there or come back to the UK for some of our glorious weather. Think those sat guys down on the Costa Del Crime are gonna be millionaires with everyone losing their tv & radio

I would also point out that before every Costa del Sat Company decides to Flog dishes and receivers for 27.5? west bear in mind that eventually the more popular this becomes then all the BBC/ITV have to do is switch Encoders so its Goodbye Biss and Hello Tandberg Director which cannot be cracked, This is just my view on it but i can see this happening sooner rather than later as the Chit Chat on forums starts heading that way.

If your willing to take the risk a box can be patched and up and running in less than 5 minutes

use google... it takes 5 mins to flash the box then maybe another 10-15 to lock the channels in the cas/biss menu. i can see this loophole being closed if it gets to widespread with everyone on the net asking how to ect. the info is already out there for everyone if they are just willing to read and not be spoonfed. regards mdt
