Is this Setup a Good Start?

Have been lurking on this and other sites for a while and planning my first venture into an enthusiast sat setup. You guys seem the best and there are lots of Liverpool (and LFC) lads here so would appreciate your advice. I have ordered the following to get me started, but am not certain I have got it right:

Fracarro 85 Penta Dish with 1.2 Diseq Motor (Supplied and installed on gable end by local fitter this coming Saturday) - ?180
Blackbox 500 Cheap Dreambox Clone - ?65 (Supplied by linuxsat arriving tomorrow)

The satellite is the suggestion of the installer and the box is hopefully a test unit before investing in a HD Dreambox or a AZBox. Hopeful to get whatever I buy running cccam for usage not to be discussed here.

Based in the North West of England with the long term aim of watching as much footy as possible in my living room. Am I going down the right lines
Blackbox DM500 clone, Penta 88 Dish, Technomate motor and a massive headache getting it to play nice.

    Hi mate

    Welcome to this great hobby.

I got a motorised system set up last year after a few years of fixed dish viewing. Money well spent.

Cant comment on what your getting as not that up on whats what, someone will be along in a minute who does know. Have a Diablo cam which was great last year for watching the footy, but alas, it's lost most of it's packages.

Am thinking of going down the protek route myself.

    Anyways, it's all good fun.

    BUt Liverpool!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that receiver seems a much easier start than the Dreambox. Not sure whether that would have been a better choice, but I do like to go in at the deep end.

Well, I have problems with changing a light bulb, so anything for an easy life!!!!!!

I would not go down the dreambox route, looks far too complex, and all this CC (that which must not be mentioned).

Protek seems a good box for the price, and opens a lot.

As an aside, I presume you are in a cable area, have you thought of getting something like a Kryptview? all that cable viewing to be had!!!!

No cable where I am or I reckon I would have been on that a long time ago (like I was with my OnDigital box). Hoping the Dreambox isn't any harder than the early days of flashing the original Xbox and setting up different OS's. That was very fiddly before all the auto installers, but if you read up and persevered you got some awesome results.

Thanks opsmonkey, that is exactly what I wanted to hear

Hopefully we will both be watching Liverpool have their best season since the start of the Prem from our comfy armchairs next year. TV's in my local are dire and I am up to year 8 of waiting for my season ticket (since I was 20 and decided I could afford one).

Glad to get confirmation that this is the right direction, Blackbox has arrived in work today so will flash with the Kaos Image V1.1 later if that is the right place to start. Working 8AM to 1AM weekdays at the moment with a second job so might be the weekend before I really get my hands dirty.

have a good read of the stickies, once you get your head around the way the linux box works you'll be flying..

Digital Kaos image is a good one and you'll get a lot of support here obvioulsly if you run into any problems..

Already started on them. Will get the Kaos image on then hopefully they will make sense with a fresh box ready to configure in front of me.
